However, Stephan remained silent. The driver continued, โItโs the middle of the night. What if something happens to Ms. Fuller? That would be a disaster.โ
Stephan shot him a sharp glance, his eyes piercing. Finally, he spat out two words, โTurn around.โ
โOkay.โ The driver sighed in relief and immediately made a U-turn at the next intersection, returning to where they had left Felicia. However, Felicia was nowhere in sight.
The driver chuckled awkwardly. โMs. Fuller must have taken a cab.โ
Stephan frowned, his voice icy. โDid you see any cab pass by? Check over there.โ He pointed to a roadside lined with cherry blossom trees. Though not in bloom, a car was parked beneath one, and two figures stood beside it: Felicia and Maurice.
The driver's jaw dropped. โMr. Rouell, isnโt that the head of the Glover family? I thought he hadโโ
There was no need for further questioning. Only Felicia could heal Maurice. No wonder she had left the car so decisively; someone was waiting for her.
Stephan let out a low, bitter laugh, laced with self-mockery. โLetโs go.โ
โYes,โ the driver replied, not daring to speak further or glance at the rearview mirror. Stephanโs cold, mocking laugh was chilling enough.
Under the cherry blossom trees, Felicia faced Maurice, her expression cautious. Several silver needles glinted in her hand, poised to strike.
A few minutes earlier, Felicia was about to hail a cab when a car persistently followed her. She stopped, surprised when Maurice emerged.
โWhat are you doing here?โ Felicia didnโt bother with pleasantries.
โI donโt want to talk to you,โ she said, turning to leave. But Maurice didnโt return to his car; he followed her leisurely.
Perhaps to ease Feliciaโs apprehension, or wary of her needles, Maurice kept his hands raised in surrender whenever she glanced back. He maintained a five-yard distance.
After a while, Feliciaโs patience snapped. โMaurice, what do you want?โ she demanded, irritated. He should just get to the point!
Maurice lowered his gaze slightly. His figure, elongated under the streetlight, revealed a smile showcasing white teeth and rosy lips. The red mole at the corner of his eye added a touch of devilish charm.
Lazily, he said, โNothing. I just want to send you home.โ
Felicia narrowed her eyes, thinking him crazy. She would have laughed if he possessed any shame.
Maurice spread his hands, feigning innocence. His expression suggested he didnโt care whether she believed him.
Felicia quickened her pace, eager to distance herself from this lunatic.
