Tears welled in Johanna's eyes as she choked out, "I missed you too, Archie."
After their tender moment, Johanna remembered something. Grabbing him, she anxiously asked, "Archie, weren't you on that ship when the accident happened? I thought you were deadโฆ I almost gave up on living!" She sobbed.
"You silly girl. Aren't I right here?" He gently wiped away her tears. "Time is tight. I'll explain later."
"Johanna, you must return to the old woman's side and ensure her child is born safely!"
Johanna pouted, jealousy and resentment flickering in her eyes. "Are you more concerned about the baby than the old woman, huh?" she snorted.
"My darling, don't you know who I care about most?" Archie chuckled indulgently, resuming their intimacy. "I missed you so much, I was going crazy!"
Johanna gasped, her heart overflowing with joy. The jealousy melted away. "Don't worry, I've been taking good care of her and the baby. They're both fine."
"That's good. My plans are almost complete," Archie smiled, but a ruthless glint flashed in his eyes. "Once Stephan is dead, Imogen will have no one but me and the child."
"Johanna, soon the Russell family will be ours. I'll protect you; we'll never be at anyone's mercy again! I promised I'd always protect you, my love."
"Of course, I trust you. No one will ever be more important than you."
They embraced tightly, savoring their reunion.
Elsewhere, Andy, finishing his patrol, panicked when he didn't find Johanna by the stream. He shouted, "Ms. Rosario! Ms. Rosario! Where are you?"
His voice startled the pair hiding in the bushes. Archie quickly zipped his jacket. "Time's running out. I need to finish what I started. Johanna, wait for me."
"Okay. Be careful!"
Johanna watched him go, her heart heavy. She quickly composed herself as Andy's voice drew closer. She hurriedly dressed and stepped from the bushes.
Andy was startled, scanning her flushed face. "Ms. Rosario, what were youโฆ"
"I washed my face and feet andโฆ needed to relieve myself," Johanna rolled her eyes. "Where else?"
She turned and walked away, her usual demeanor intact.
Andy scratched his head. Who would hide in the bushes to relieve themselves and emerge blushing? Still, it made sense. Satisfied, he glanced at the bushes, saw nothing unusual, and followed Johanna back to camp.
Perhaps the stream's coolness or the scenery improved Johanna's mood. She became more attentive and cheerful toward Imogen.
Imogen smiled, teasing, "You should take a break. Aren't you tired? Come, sit. Let me wipe your sweat."
Johanna grinned, "I'm not tired! The baby is my precious little one too. Taking care of you is natural!"
"Oh? So I'm no longer your sister-in-law?" Imogen raised an eyebrow playfully.
