Imogen was overjoyed, ecstatic, and overwhelmed. She wanted to tell everyone that she could see! This wasn't a dream; Felicia hadn't deceived her. To confirm it wasn't her imagination, she pinched herself and rushed to the cradle. Her gaze softened as she looked at Caleb. "My dear child, I love you so much."
Caleb stared at her, waving his hands and kicking his feet. He was so adorable. No matter how long Imogen looked, she couldn't get enough of him. She couldn't bear to look away, bending down to shower Caleb with kisses as tears of joy streamed down her face.
The maid noticed something and stammered, "M-Mrs. Russell, your eyesโฆ"
Imogen turned to her, meeting her gaze and gesturing for silence. "Don't tell anyone."
The maid nodded. She didn't know what Imogen planned, but she trusted it was for a good reason.
Just then, the bedroom door opened. Imogen turned, her heart pounding with a mix of emotions. For years, she had only heard descriptions of Archie's appearance, imagining what he might look like. But now, she could finally see her husband, the man she loved. Excitement and shyness mingled as she took in his features. He was as handsome and gentle as others had described, exuding a calm and caring demeanor.
Imogen masked her emotions and gestured for the maids and nanny to leave the room. She wanted to give Archie a surprise. He would surely be happy to know that she could see again! Would he celebrate with her?
Soon, only Imogen, Archie, and Johanna remained.
"Archieโฆ" Imogen bit her lip, searching for the right words. But before she could speak, her gaze caught something shocking.
Once the maids and nanny left, Johanna's demeanor changed. She stared at Imogen disdainfully, then clung to Archie, pressing her body against his.
Imogen's brows furrowed. What was going on?
But it didn't matter; Archie would surely push her away.
Just as Imogen reassured herself, she saw Archie pinch Johanna's cheek with a loving smile. Then, to her utter disbelief, he wrapped his arm around Johanna's waist and leaned in to kiss her.
Imogen froze, unable to believe what she was witnessing. Confusion and shock washed over her, leaving her cold and numb. Her mind went blank as her body trembled.
And then she saw Johanna silently mouth, "It's so thrilling doing this in front of that blind woman!"
Archie seemed to agree, silently laughing as he mouthed back, "Are you jealous again?"
It was clear they believed they could do whatever they pleased in front of a blind woman, as long as they remained quiet.
Imogen muttered flatly, "Archie, why don't you come and look at Caleb?"
Still entangled with Johanna, Archie replied lazily, "I'm looking! He's our son, after all. He's so cute!"
He had said similar things before, but never had those words sounded so ridiculous to her.
