Listen to this chapter:

Scarlet remained wary of Maurice. Even though he appeared formless, she still didn't trust him. "Can you give me my boss back?"

Instead of handing Felicia over, Maurice lifted her unconscious body into his arms and started walking down the mountain. Scarlet gritted her teeth in frustration. With her injuries, she couldn't take Felicia back by force. Scarlet swallowed her anger and had no choice but to follow him. Maurice didn't seem to have any malicious intentions. He carefully placed Felicia in the car, grabbed a blanket from the side, and draped it over her. His actions were surprisingly gentle.

Dawn had arrived. The first light of daybreak painted the sky in shades of rose, resembling an ocean. Golden rays of sunlight soon pierced through the clouds, casting a dazzling glow. Behind them, the monstrous mountain from the night now looked serene and majestic.

Light fell across Felicia's face. Even in her sleep, she was restless. Her brow was furrowed as if she were trapped in a nightmare.

Maurice turned around. Scarlet, who had just finished treating her wounds, glanced up and met Maurice's dark gaze. Simultaneously, she realized a gun was pointed directly at her.

Scarlet's eyes widened as she instinctively reached for the weapon at her waist, only to grasp at empty air. Her gun, the one Felicia had given herโ€”the same one she'd used yesterday chasing the hooded manโ€”was gone, somehow snatched by Maurice.

Scarlet remained frozen, not daring to make any sudden moves. If she remembered correctly, there was still one bullet in the chamber.

"Answer my questions," Maurice said impatiently. But if one listened closely, there was a subtle shift in his tone near the end. "Why is Felicia out of control? She was fine before."

Scarlet shrugged, her expression a mask of innocence and helplessness. "How would I know? I'm just as anxious as you are. That's why I've been investigating. I almost had a lead today, but that guy ran, and now the trail is cold."

"What about the suspects?" Maurice asked indifferently. "Give me the list."

Scarlet's eyes widened. Was he implying what she thought he was? They didn't know who was behind the attack on Felicia, but there had to be suspects. And if one suspect wasn't enough, they would put every single name on the list and eliminate them all!

Was this man serious?

Scarlet's expression shifted. But before she could say anything, Maurice asked, "Is there a problem?"

She sighed and glanced at Felicia, unconscious in the car. She hoped Felicia would wake up soon. If she didn't, Scarlet wasn't sure she could handle this cold-blooded man much longer.

Maurice clicked his tongue at her silence. His tone grew colder, and a dangerous glint flashed in his eyes. The mole at the corner of his eye made his expression even more sinister. "I don't have much patience. You'd better answer me."

Maurice would usually rough someone up and beat the truth out of them. And if one beating wasn't enough, he would make it worse. No matter how stubborn a person was, they had a breaking point.

And yet, he hadn't done that to Scarlet. Why? Because she was someone close to Felicia. So, he was showing restraint.

That alone was already shocking enough. Maurice's subordinates and the driver looked dumbfounded. Their widened eyes reflected their disbelief. Scarlet wasn't stupid. She could feel the pressure of the gun barrel and Maurice's killing intent.
