Stanley intimately thought of Maurice. Maurice suddenly went berserk and attacked Stephan and then Imogen, who was completely defenseless. Everyone thought Maurice had lost his mind. What kind of sane person would do something like that? But if Maurice had been controlled by a venomous creature, then everything suddenly made sense—his sudden violent outburst, his reckless attack on Imogen, and even Felicia's insistence on protecting him.
Stanley took a sharp breath at the realization and instinctively glanced at Stephan. This was a love rival they were talking about. And Maurice had already done so much for Felicia. If Maurice had a chance with Felicia, he still held some importance to her.
Stanley felt frustrated. He recalled Felicia asking him to find certain records and books. Back then, he had gathered half the library for her; many books were about a special type of broma bell and venomous creatures. He hadn’t thought much of it, simply following orders. But looking back, it was all starting to connect. A single thread could unravel the entire web.
"Ms. Russell," Stanley began, but Stephan raised a hand to silence him.
The cloaked man lay at Stephan's feet. His once-mysterious black robe was tattered; the air of secrecy had vanished. He was nothing more than a man in his position. He might look calculating, but under the weight of torture and fear, his scheming had turned into flattery.
"Mr. Russell, I swear everything I've said is true! I won't dare lie!" The cloaked man forced a smile, trying to appear harmless. He was making it clear that everything had been on Pete's orders and had nothing to do with him.
No one could tell if Stephan believed him.
After a long pause, Stephan smiled, but his eyes sharpened, and he sneered, "Good. Very good."
The cloaked man's legs gave way, and he fell to his knees. "Mr. Russell, I won't dare do anything like this again! Please have mercy!" Stephan was done listening and strode out without another word.
He only wanted to see Felicia and ensure she was safe, to ask her how she had endured everything. Heart Eater was a merciless parasite that inflicted unimaginable pain, and yet he had known nothing about it.
Stephan closed his eyes. "Stanley."
"Yes, sir." Stanley stepped forward.
Stephan gestured toward Caleb, who was being held by the maid outside. He asked Stanley to take Caleb to the hospital with Imogen. He then climbed into another car. Stanley nodded. "Yes, sir."
The car started and soon disappeared from view. On the way, Stephan called Felicia three times, but no one answered.
At that moment, Felicia was on her way to a high-end hotel. Maurice had booked the entire top floor. It didn't take Felicia long to find the right place. Scarlet was already waiting at the entrance of one of the suites. As soon as she saw Felicia, she quickly stepped forward and lowered her voice. "It doesn't look good inside, boss." Felicia paused, nodded slightly, and pushed open the door to Maurice's suite.
