Roberta stood obediently to the side and said, "Aunt Felicia, this is it." Felicia nodded and unlocked the pharmacy door with her key.
A strong aroma of herbs greeted her as the door swung open. The room was filled with shelves lined with rare herbs, covering two entire walls.
Before entering, Felicia glanced back at Roberta. "You can go about your business. I don't need anyone to watch over me."
Roberta fidgeted, looking uneasy. "It's alright, Aunt Felicia. I'll just wait outside; I won't disturb you. Consider it a breakโor there'll be more chores waiting."
Felicia understood. Talia had always made life difficult for Roberta, constantly tormenting her with laundry and endless cleaning. Felicia nodded. "Suit yourself."
Roberta offered a faint smile. "Thank you, Aunt Felicia."
Felicia said nothing more and stepped into the pharmacy. The heavy door closed slowly behind her, leaving Roberta standing still, docile as ever.
Felicia switched on all the lights, taking in the room. Besides the variety of herbs, she was most captivated by her grandfather's medicines: an entire row of shelves filled with carefully labeled jars and bottles, each detailing its use and ingredients.
Felicia's gaze lingered until a small white porcelain bottle at the top of a shelf caught her eye. "Is this poison?" she wondered, taking it to examine the label closely. Clive's handwriting read: "Lethal upon contact with blood, extremely poisonous, no antidote." She quietly returned the bottle to its place.
Many other such potent concoctions lined the shelves. No wonder Clive had earned the title of "Poison Sage" in his youthโa reputation well-deserved.
After examining the medicines, Felicia found what she sought: a collection of ancient medical texts detailing herbal properties and poison-making methods. Just as she was about to begin reading, a loud crash from outside was followed by a cry of pain.
Felicia put down the book and went to investigate. Opening the pharmacy door, she found Roberta amidst shattered glass. Not far off, the twin siblings stood, slingshots in hand, making faces before fleeing.
Felicia frowned, kneeling beside Roberta. "Where are you hurt?"
Roberta, after a moment, murmured, "My hand and legโฆ" The twins had struck her with slingshots, shattering a picture in the corridor. The falling frame had caused Roberta to slip, resulting in several glass shards piercing her skin. They weren't deep, but they looked painful.
Felicia started to help her up. "Let's go. Let's treat your injuries."
Roberta sniffled, close to tears. "It hurts so much, Aunt Felicia. I can't walk."
Felicia paused. "Wait here. I'll get a medicine kit."
Roberta nodded. "Alright."
Felicia left the basement. Reaching the ground floor, she encountered a maid, obtained a medicine kit, and was about to return when she saw Clive approaching, followed by Kayla.
