Listen to this chapter:

Kayla's guess was terrifyingly accurate and to the point. "You didn't escape together, so you abandoned Felicia and fled alone, right? If you betrayed her once, what difference does it make if you do it again? Roberta, think for yourself. If you want a future and a healthy mother, don't defy me. I won't tolerate disobedience."

Kayla extended her hand, demanding, "For the last time, give it to me!"

Roberta closed her eyes, resignedly handing over the small white porcelain bottle she clutched. Her voice was hoarse. "If I give it to you, can I see my mother?"

"You can," Kayla replied, her eyes a mixture of pity and mockery as she took the bottle and left.

Roberta didn't understand Kayla's expression then, but it became clear during her visit to the sanatorium. Talia had told her mother about her captivity. To punish them both, Talia arrived an hour early. While Eileen Lutz was still lucid, Talia showed her a video of Roberta's humiliation and torture. Witnessing her daughter's suffering, Eileen lost control, her frenzy requiring five or six doctors to restrain her. She screamed and roared in despair.

Talia laughed triumphantly, mocking, "This is what you get for trying to take my man. Eileen, you're a burden to your daughter. You might as well die."

When Roberta arrived, Eileen was sedated and restrained. Doctors informed Roberta that her mother was now suicidal. The world spun; everything felt dark and devoid of hope. Why were they so cruel?

That night, Roberta stayed with Eileen, crying until exhaustion claimed her. She fell asleep, only to relive the horrifying scenes in her nightmares. "No, noโ€ฆ please let me goโ€ฆ" She trembled, feeling gentle hands stroking her back, a soothing touch like a lullaby. Gradually, she stopped crying and found peace.

At dawn, she awoke to Eileen's peaceful face. But soon, silent cries of despair echoed through the sanatorium. Eileen had died.

Talia, sitting with Kayla and planning to poison Felicia, sneered at the news. "Serves her right!"

Kayla showed no concern for Roberta or Eileen. It had been her idea to send Talia to torment Eileen, a lesson for Roberta's defiance. "Talia, Felicia's coming over; it's the weekend. Slip it into her juice." Kayla eagerly anticipated Felicia's demise.

Talia looked at her with disdain. "If I give it to her, do you think she'll drink it? You should do it; you're her sister."

Both hesitated, fearing suspicion. After a moment, Kayla slammed her hand on the table. "Let's have Roberta do it. Felicia trusts her, and since Roberta stole the poison, we'll blame her!"
