Chapter 96

She never thought Roberta would poison herself. Kayla felt unsettled by Felicia's earlier words and snapped at Talia's response.

"Didn't you say Roberta was like a dog that would obey your every command? Look what happened. She bit you!"

"How dare you say that? If you hadn't told me we needed to teach her a lesson and had me threaten her mother at the sanatorium, would her mother have killed herself?"

Talia rolled her eyes. "If it weren't for your stupid idea, things wouldn't have turned out like this!"

"I told you to threaten her mother to make Roberta more obedient. Couldn't you tell Roberta had been getting rebellious? I never told you to drive her to suicide!" Kayla retorted.

The two former partners now turned on each other. Talia's head throbbed. Arguing about "what-ifs" was pointless. She thought she had Roberta under control with the compromising videos. No woman would want those images publicized. Therefore, Talia never anticipated Roberta's defiant suicide. It was understandable, though, as the videos were now worthless.

Kayla's expression was grim. "That's not what matters now. What matters is what proof Felicia has! Think carefully. When you met with Roberta, could she have recorded your conversation?"

"That's impossible," Talia insisted. "She lacked the nerve. Besides, I never let her use the phone."

"That's good to know." Kayla felt relieved. There was a chance Felicia was bluffing.

Chapter 97

As long as Kayla and Talia remained calm, Roberta's death would appear accidental. Still uneasy, Kayla repeatedly reminded Talia of key details. They corroborated their stories, ensuring nothing aroused suspicion. Finally, they felt more at ease. But then, their head wounds throbbed painfully again.

Talia had never been so humiliated, forced to grovel.

"Damn it! Roberta used our poison. Will we even get another chance to get rid of Felicia? Felicia Fuller… you better pray you don't end up in my hands. If you do, I'm going to make you pay!"

Talia gritted her teeth. She saw Kayla wasn't treating her wound; she was pressing on it, making it bleed.

"What are you doing?"

Kayla curled her lips. "I need to earn sympathy, don't I?" Dexter and Myra would arrive soon. Kayla needed to appear pitiful.

Talia clicked her tongue. "You're ruthless enough to do this to yourself, huh?"

Kayla grinned. "I can be even more ruthless if necessary." She would do anything to achieve her goals.

Soon, Noah's family and Jake arrived, followed by Myra and Sebastian. Except for Dexter, who was busy dismantling the bridge, everyone was there. Myra saw Kayla's bloody forehead immediately. Shocked and worried, she asked, "Kay, how did you get hurt? What happened?" Kayla remained silent, her gaze drifting toward Felicia. She was implying Felicia was responsible.
