Chapter 26

Benjamin Luther knew of Oceania Group and Chris Jovian, but this was their first meeting.

“Mr. Jovian, a pleasure. How may I help you?”

“The Azure Star Residence project belongs to Oceania Group. Have Sunpeak Construction withdraw immediately.”

“What?” Benjamin was stunned. He looked at his wife.

Mrs. Luther said coldly, “Isn’t this all because of your mistress? I’ll settle the score with you later.”

“How dare you mess around behind my back and lose the Azure Star Residence project!” Benjamin could only remain silent. Oceania Group always prevailed. Mrs. Luther had no choice but to concede the project.

Sunpeak Construction soon left, replaced by another team. Chris circled his desk, tapping his fingers rhythmically. After a while, Isabel entered.

“Boss, you’re here!” Chris beamed.

“Is everything taken care of?” Isabel asked.

“Yes, just Azure Star Residence. It was easily handled. Acquiring Sunpeak Construction wouldn't even be a problem. Now Benjamin and his wife will leave Ardenfall in disgrace.” They were newcomers, recently arrived to work on the project. Benjamin believed he could fool around without his wife finding out. Now he’d offended her and lost the project. He was in deep trouble.

“This project is likely to lose money. With Benjamin’s actions, are you still willing to take on this mess? Aren’t you worried about losing money?” Isabel glanced at him. “Do you think I can’t afford to lose?”

“Well… that’s not what I meant. You’ve been paying off the Clyde family’s huge debts for years, let alone a small project like Azure Star Residence.”

“Alright, just get a position for my brother. His happiness is all that matters.”

Brother? Chris pondered. So the boss is doing this for her family again. She gave everything to the Clydes and was kicked out. Now she’s doing it for the Galvez family. Is it worth it?

Though puzzled, Chris was willing to listen to Isabel. He wouldn’t be where he was without her.

“How about your brother be the project manager?” Chris asked.

“No, he’s not very bright. He’s good on-site, but not leadership material,” Isabel flatly refused.

“Then… foreman?”

“No, the foreman needs to supervise the project.”

Chris was at a loss. After some thought, he asked, “How about security guard? Or head of security?”

“Head of security. I think he’s a good fit.”

“Then it’s settled. I’ll arrange it immediately.”

“Okay.” Isabel originally wanted a managerial position for her brother, but he lacked the aptitude. If he were more capable, she could have given him the entire site.

Alex was chatting with coworkers when management approached.

“Who is Alex Galvez?”

“Me!” Alex quickly raised his hand. His sister had told him to wait for a job offer.

“Come with me.”

Alex followed the manager to the office.

“Mr. Galvez, you are now the head of security. Here’s your uniform.”

“Sir, are you sure? Me? Head of security?” Alex was incredulous.

“Yes. Everyone knows you’re strong. I’ll also have someone assist you.”

“Then… how much does a head of security make a month?” Alex asked honestly.

The manager smiled. “Twenty thousand dollars a month.”

Alex’s eyes widened. Twenty thousand dollars! He’d been a low-level laborer, earning a few hundred dollars a month. Now, twenty thousand! I’m rich!

Isabel arrived. “Alex, they made me head of security, twenty thousand dollars a month! Lucky, right?”

“It must be your excellent work. You’ll have to work hard.”

“Okay, I will!” Alex was brimming with confidence. Isabel was relieved to see his happiness.

Alex changed into the uniform, his appearance instantly improved. “Alex, you look great! Mom and Dad will be so happy.”

That evening, Alex announced his promotion. Hannah couldn’t believe it. Her son, lucky to be a bricklayer, was now head of security?

With Isabel’s testimony, Hannah and others believed it. “Alex, you’ve made it! You’ve made your parents proud,” Hannah said.

The family rejoiced. Jack praised Alex’s capabilities, Roy noted his higher salary than hers, and they declared him the family’s most successful member. Alex was overjoyed.

Their happiness was palpable. Isabel then took medicine to Blake’s room.

“Here’s the antidote. Take it for a few days, and the poison will be gone.” She carefully fed it to him.

“Thank you. You’re a miracle worker,” Blake conceded, having previously been unconvinced. “Did you secretly help my brother?” He’d overheard everything.

“Yes, I wanted them happier,” Isabel admitted.

“They are happy and easily satisfied. Maybe this is happiness,” Blake murmured, envying them.

“Does your family never visit? You’ve been gone so long. The caretaker should have informed them.”

Blake smiled bitterly. “If they cared, I wouldn’t be here.”

Isabel didn’t understand his family’s heartlessness.

“What happened to you? Why are you like this?”

“Isabel, I don’t want to talk about it now. When I’m better, I’ll tell you everything.” Isabel understood and didn’t press. She’d only saved him because her master instructed her to.
