Chapter 59

“During that time, they were busy with work. Since they weren't close to me, they never visited. It wasn't until a few years ago that they brought me back, because of the marriage with the Swanson family.

“There really isn't much affection between us. They are always selfish and never consider my feelings. So, you don't need to be polite to them.

“If you see them next time, just have them leave. Don't let them dirty this place!”

After hearing her words, Hannah and Samuel felt even sorrier for her.

“My poor child, I thought you were living a life of luxury with them. I never expected they would send you to the countryside. They were so irresponsible. You've suffered,” Hannah said sadly.

“Tabel, it's all our fault. We didn't take care of you back then. Although our family is not well-off, Amelia has been spoiled since childhood. Your siblings did their best to satisfy her every need. We treated her like our own daughter! Calus and his wife are heartless! I should have been harsher to them today!”

When Samuel heard that Isabel had been abandoned for more than ten years, he was furious. Their family was close-knit; no matter how hard life got, they would never abandon their own child.

“It’s all in the past now. Don't worry, I actually had a pretty good life in the countryside. I had an old man who took care of me. But now, I have you guys!” Isabel smiled.

“In that case, where is that old man now? We must personally visit him to thank him for taking care of you,” said Hannah.

“I’ll take care of it later. I’ll visit him myself.” Isabel didn’t know where the old man had gone, and she couldn’t reach him by phone.

After a while, Alex, Jack, and Roy returned. Seeing everyone was back, Hannah said, “I have some good news to share with you all today.”

“Mom, what is it?” Jack was curious. Their family had been unlucky for a long time, and good news from Hannah was rare.

“Well, Andy’s mother introduced a girl to your brother, and we’re going to meet her tomorrow.”

“Now that our conditions have improved, someone is finally matchmaking for him!” Hannah was overjoyed, having spent her life worrying about her children.

“That’s great! Congratulations, Alex,” Jack said with a smile.

“Congratulations! I’m finally going to have a sister-in-law,” Roy chimed in. Isabel was also happy for Alex. Alex was already twenty-six and probably had thoughts about getting married; this was a good opportunity. Alex wasn’t handsome or smart. In the village, people said someone like him might stay single forever. Isabel worried, wondering who would fall for her brother. She hoped for a kind-hearted woman, fearing those with ulterior motives, as Alex’s intelligence was no match for them.

Alex scratched his head and smiled sheepishly, “Am I really going to have a wife?”

Chapter 59 (continued)

“Yeah. If you were a little smarter, finding someone wouldn’t be so hard. Tomorrow, you need to perform well,” Hannah said.

“Mom, don’t worry. I will,” Alex was also overjoyed. He had seen his peers marry and even have kids—like Big Bill—yet he was still a bachelor.

“Who’s coming with me tomorrow? This is my first time, and I’m nervous. I don’t want to mess it up?” Hannah looked at her children.

“Mom, I have an important event at work tomorrow. I have to be there,” said Jack.

“I can’t take leave tomorrow either,” Roy said, looking troubled.

Seeing this, Isabel said, “I’ll go. I don’t have any classes tomorrow.”

“Then Isabel, it is. You are smart too. I trust your judgment,” said Hannah.

After dinner, Alex secretly pulled Isabel into his room.

“Alex, why are you being so secretive?” Isabel asked.

“Mom said you’re smart. Help me pick out what to wear tomorrow.”

Hearing his words, Isabel was speechless. She could tell that Alex really wanted a wife. Ever since they moved, Isabel noticed that Blake had prepared a full wardrobe for each of them. Isabel checked Alex’s wardrobe and picked out a suit.

“How about this? It looks mature.”

“Okay, I’ll listen to you.” He started changing into the suit and showed Isabel. Although Alex wasn’t good-looking, he wasn’t ugly either. He was average and wouldn’t stand out in a crowd. But in that suit, with his broad build, he had a certain charm.

“You look handsome!” Isabel praised.

“Thanks, Isabel!”

At that moment, Isabel’s phone rang. It was Blake. She took it to her room to answer.

“Isabel, what time should I pick you up from class tomorrow?” Blake smiled. Every time he called Isabel, he was in a good mood.

“I don’t have any class tomorrow.”

“No class! But you have two classes in the afternoon!” Blake knew Isabel’s schedule very well.

“I took a leave. Alex is going on a blind date tomorrow, and I need to be with him.”

“What? Alex is going on a blind date? Why didn’t anyone tell me about this?”

Isabel couldn’t help but retort, “What does it have to do with you?”

“I’ve never seen a blind date before,” said Blake. In reality, he just wanted to see Isabel.

“Alright now, don’t make trouble. I’m hanging up.” Isabel hung up.

Chapter 39 (This should likely be Chapter 60)

Blake felt a pang of disappointment as he thought Isabel was still so cold toward him. Then, he decided he should work harder. If something like this happened, it must be his fault—he wasn’t doing enough.

The next day, Isabel and the others arrived at the appointed restaurant. Mrs. Lester was also there. She introduced the girl from the countryside, Cora, describing her as a hardworking and good girl.

During the conversation, Alex kept his head down, looking shyer than the girl. Noticing his reaction, Isabel shook her head inwardly. The girl was shy and didn’t talk much; maybe it was her first blind date. Isabel found her to be a good match, but it was up to them in the end.

After getting to know each other, they had a meal and left, exchanging WhatsApp numbers to stay in touch. If they had feelings for each other, they would be together; otherwise, they would part ways. The blind date went very well.

Afterwards, Hannah went to find Mrs. Lester. Mrs. Lester said, “Hannah, I know your family’s situation, so I wouldn’t introduce anyone materialistic. I’m afraid Alex would suffer too. Cora is my niece, so you can trust her.”

“Thank you so much, Mrs. Lester. If Alex can marry her, I will definitely give you a token of appreciation!”

Mrs. Lester laughed and said, “We’re neighbors. Don’t mention it.”
