Chapter 84
Isabel had already considered this. "Dad, your analysis is sharp, but these small tricks won't work!"
As they spoke, Helen announced Alex's arrival. Both were surprised, wondering why he had come. Samuel asked, "Alex, what brings you here?"
Alex replied, "I heard the entire security team left, so I came to guard the place."
Samuel said, "At a time like this, you shouldn't complicate matters."
"I'm not complicating anything! I was a guard. Why work for someone else when I can help my own family? I'll protect the company!" Alex proudly flexed his muscles.
Samuel shook his head, confused by his son's lack of understanding. Isabel chuckled softly. "Alex, we appreciate your desire to help. You should stay; there's no need to return to the construction site."
"Thanks, Isabel!" Alex exclaimed happily. "Where should I stand watch?"
"The front gate; there's nobody there right now."
"Right away!" Alex responded excitedly.
Samuel sighed. "Can Alex manage on his own? He really doesn't have the sharpest mind."
Isabel asked curiously, "Dad, why are Jack and Roy so clever, but Alex isn't as smart?"
This prompted Samuel to reflect on the past. "When Alex was three, we lived at the Galvez residence. He was bright, but one day, while with Tony, they argued, and Tony pushed Alex down the stairs. By the time we found him, he was in a coma, requiring several days of resuscitation. Afterward, he became… simpler, able only to laugh foolishly. People called him a fool. This deeply disappointed your grandmother. After moving through several hospitals, he regained some abilities, but… he's still missing a piece of his mind. Your mother and I feel terrible. It's all our fault. However, seeing Alex, despite his limitations, live a relatively normal life is a blessing."
Isabel hadn't realized the depth of Samuel's story. "Dad, don't be sad. Simple-minded people find their own happiness. Alex faces life with unwavering cheer—unbothered by troubles—he might be happier than all of us."
"Indeed, as long as he's happy, that's all that matters," Samuel agreed.
Meanwhile, at a restaurant, Soren, the former head of security, dined with David and Guinevere. "David, you're clever. They dealt me a blow, but they don't realize all the security staff listens to me. With a single command, they'd all leave, leaving the company vulnerable. Let's see how they handle it," Soren boasted, taking a swig of beer.
Guinevere said with cruel satisfaction, "You've done well. Isabel's arrogance made her think managing a company is easy. She won't learn until she gets a proper lesson."
Their celebration was interrupted by a message. "Guinevere, they've restored power, and the doors are open. Despite the lack of security, the workshop is running normally!"
"What?" Guinevere shouted in shock. "In under two hours, they're back to normal?"
"Yes, they even found a security guard, Alex, to oversee the entrance!"
"How can this be, Soren? Didn't you say they'd stop operations?" Guinevere glared at Soren. If the workshop stalled, she could complain to Sophia and make Isabel suffer.
Soren explained, "I did! I ordered the wires cut, the pipes blocked, and changed all the door codes. I don't know how they fixed everything so quickly."
David remained calm. He took a sip of his drink. "Even if they're operational, what does it matter? There's only Alex guarding; he's no threat. I have a backup plan."
"What backup plan?" Guinevere asked.
"This evening, I'll send someone to the warehouse to toss in a few cigarette butts. Most of the company's products are new energy batteries; fire would cause an explosion. Imagine the chaos! Sophia wouldn't let them off the hook, and the authorities would arrest their executives," David said menacingly.
"But what if things get out of hand?" Guinevere worried. She wanted to regain control of Star Electronics, not cause destruction.
David's thirst for revenge was unwavering. Samuel and Isabel had sent him to prison, and it took Guinevere's pleas to Sophia to get him released. "Sweetheart, this is the only way. Don't worry about setbacks." He embraced Guinevere.
"Alright, I'll follow your advice. I'll do anything to get back at Isabel!" Guinevere's humiliation and resentment ran deep. She would make them suffer.
In her office, Isabel called Tyler. "You're calling me?" Tyler exclaimed. "Isabel, what do you need?"
"I need two hundred guards. Skilled and disciplined; no troublemakers."
"Sure. When?"
"Before nightfall."
"Alright, Isabel, rest assured! Love your—"
"Get lost!" Isabel snapped, hanging up.
