Chapter 102

Abigail couldnโ€™t understand Clarkโ€™s actions and had messaged him asking for an explanation, but he never replied. โ€œThanks, guys,โ€ she said.

Abigail decided to wait for updates from the victimโ€™s family before taking action, even though she deeply wanted to hand over the video to the police.

After the dinner party, Sebastian, who had drunk quite a bit, leaned back in the car with his eyes closed, dozing. James and Warren had no loyaltyโ€”theyโ€™d abandoned her with Sebastian.

Sitting beside Sebastian, Abigail felt nervous, gently picking at her fingernails as she kept her gaze fixed on the window.

โ€œDonโ€™t you want to deal with the Gibson family? They treated you poorly, exploited you, and clearly used you as a mere tool,โ€ Sebastianโ€™s voice suddenly broke the silence in the car.

Abigail involuntarily turned to look at Sebastian sitting on the other side. The carโ€™s interior was dim, with only the occasional streetlight flickering in, making his face appear particularly enigmatic in the alternating light and shadow.

โ€œThe only person I care about is my grandfather. I want the Gibson family to leave me alone. To be honest, I donโ€™t have their thick skin,โ€ Abigail said, lowering her eyes to look at her fingers.

In short, even with Halden Group and Sebastianโ€™s protection, she was still an orphan. No matter how terrible the Gibson family was, they were a thousand times better off than her, and they could easily target her.

Moreover, even if she didnโ€™t consider herself, she had to think about Wyattโ€™s connection to the Gibson family.

She said, โ€œMr. Robinson, I met someone named Clark Robinson in prison. He taught me a lot. Maybe the apps I developed were recommended to you by him."

โ€œYou must know him, right? He was the most skilled person in prison at the time,โ€ Abigail said, looking at Sebastian as she spoke.

She couldnโ€™t see his expression change, but she felt he seemed less relaxed. She wondered, โ€˜Does he dislike this person?โ€™

Sebastianโ€™s tone remained casual, but there was a hint of awkwardness. โ€œI donโ€™t think I know him.โ€

Abigail nodded, retracted her gaze, and went back to looking at the scenery retreating outside the car window. โ€œIf he were involved in the robot project, it would definitely be even more impressive.โ€

โ€œYou think heโ€™s capable?โ€ Sebastian raised his eyelids and slightly tilted his head to look at her profile.

Abigail raised her hand to prop up her chin, stared at the outside scenery for a long while, and then said slowly, โ€œHe taught me a lot. I consider him my mentor.โ€

She continued, โ€œWhen I was released from prison, I determined that once I found a good job and reintegrated into society, I must meet him.โ€

โ€œDo you like him?โ€ His tone turned cold and rigid in the darkness.

Abigail looked at him in surprise. โ€œI thought you rarely think about such things. With so many girlfriends, you probably donโ€™t believe in love, do you?โ€

Sebastian sat up straight. โ€œWho said I have that many girlfriends?โ€

Feeling he seemed angry, Abigail quickly explained, โ€œI havenโ€™t investigated youโ€”just heard rumors.โ€

He sucked in a breath, and after a moment, suddenly laughed. โ€œRumors stop at the wise. Clearly, youโ€™re not wise.โ€

โ€œUhโ€ฆโ€ But Abigail had seen him break up with someone on the street with her own eyes.

โ€œDo you like Clark?โ€ Sebastian leaned back in the seat and asked again.

โ€œIโ€™ve never even met him. How am I gonna like someone without meeting him?โ€ Abigail said, unable to clarify her feelings for Clark. Their relationship was like that of pen palsโ€”they could convey emotions through words, but it always felt illusory.

Sebastian didnโ€™t say more.

When they arrived at the Victoria Grand Hotel and the car stopped, Abigail got out. โ€œThank you, Mr. Robinson.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m going on a business trip tomorrowโ€”want to come?โ€ Sebastian sat in the car and looked up at her.

Meeting his deep eyes, Abigail was silent for a moment before saying, โ€œIโ€™m an employee of Halden Group. You should contact Halden Group first and have them arrange my business trip before I can go.โ€

Sebastian was probably drunk and not thinking clearly.

โ€œIf you donโ€™t want to deal with the Gibson familyโ€™s matters, come on the business trip with me."

โ€œWhether your supervisor approves or not, learn to seize opportunities yourselfโ€”only then can you get a better offer,โ€ Sebastian said, then raised his chin to signal her to close the car door.

Standing at the hotel entrance, it took Abigail a while to fully understand the meaning behind his words. After turning around, she couldnโ€™t help but smile. She thought, โ€˜Was Sebastian truly acknowledging my abilities by saying that, or was he teaching me workplace rules?โ€™

As she entered the hotel elevator, she sent him a message. Abigail: [Iโ€™ll go with you tomorrow to see the outside world. Thanks a lot.]
