Listen to this chapter:

After leaving the hotel, Abigail helped a now-sober Wyatt into the car. Sebastian waited in the driverโ€™s seat until theyโ€™d buckled their seatbelts before speaking, โ€œSo after today, you wonโ€™t be staying at the hotel anymore?โ€

โ€œHard to say.โ€ Abigail wasnโ€™t sure if Wyatt would be able to handle the Gibson family on his own.

After the engine started, Wyatt turned to Sebastian. โ€œYou should be taking your grandfather home. Abby and I can catch a ride back ourselves.โ€

Sebastian let out a sigh. โ€œYou know what my grandfatherโ€™s like. When he tells me to give someone a ride, do I really have a choice?โ€

Abigail was getting sleepy and leaned against Wyattโ€™s arm, watching the scenery drift past the window. She was genuinely relieved that Wyatt had recovered enough to leave the hospital. His condition had been so serious that sheโ€™d thought he might be stuck there for months. His quick recovery had surprised everyone. Abigail closed her eyes, feeling completely at peace. Wyatt saw she was resting and kept quiet.

When the car stopped in front of Gibson Villa, Wyatt gently woke her up. Abigail got out first and started walking toward the front door. Sebastian and Wyatt stayed in the car, waiting until Abigail was far enough away. Then, Wyatt asked, โ€œWhy arenโ€™t you telling her what really happened back then?โ€

Sebastian watched Abigailโ€™s figure near the house. โ€œMr. Gibson, she only came here to see you because she told people she was visiting me.โ€

โ€œI get it, you have your reasons. I wonโ€™t push you on it. But that girlโ€™s smart. When you need her help with something, just ask her straight up. Itโ€™ll be good for her to get some real experience.โ€

Wyatt got out of the car after saying this. Once Sebastian drove away, Abigail turned to Wyatt. โ€œAre you two close friends?โ€

โ€œNot really close with him, but I was good friends with his grandfather years ago. Havenโ€™t seen each other in ages though.โ€ Wyatt paused, thinking about how the Cox family had fallen on hard times after his daughter died. Things had been tough for them in Chesterwick. Sebastian had done well for himself growing up in Chesterwick society, but the Cox family still didnโ€™t have much standing.

โ€œNo wonder heโ€™s been helping me. Itโ€™s because of you, Grandpa,โ€ Abigail muttered under her breath. Sheโ€™d been wondering why he was being so nice to her, and now it all made sense.

โ€œThatโ€™s not necessarily true. That kidโ€™s hard to get along with and doesnโ€™t do favors easily. He sees potential in you and respects your abilities.โ€ Wyatt took her hand as they walked toward the Gibson family gate. He continued, โ€œAbby, I built the Gibson family business from nothing when I was young. Even Daniella has shares in it, so thereโ€™s no way you shouldnโ€™t have any. This time, Iโ€™m going to fight them tooth and nail to make sure they give you what was Daniellaโ€™s. They need to pay back everything they owe you.โ€

Wyatt pressed the doorbell after speaking.

Abigail looked down and said quietly, โ€œI can make my own money, you know.โ€ All she wanted was to live peacefully with Wyatt, without any drama or complications. Everything about the Gibson family disgusted her.

Wyatt said firmly, โ€œWhether you can earn money is one thing, but whether I want to give it to you is another. I just canโ€™t stand seeing this happen. I had to bring you back to fight for whatโ€™s yours.โ€

Wyatt used to like Daniella well enough, but then Dorian told him what really happened. Daniella had spread rumors about Abigail, nearly destroying her reputation completely. Those nasty videos were everywhere online. If Abigail hadnโ€™t defended herself in person, people would still be calling her a homewrecker on the street. The Gibson family had been so good to Daniella, yet sheโ€™d been that way.

โ€œGrandpa, am I really the Gibson familyโ€™s biological child?โ€ Abigail asked. โ€œIโ€™m not trying to make a big deal out of it, I just donโ€™t understand how parents can treat their own kid like that.โ€

Whether it was her or Daniella, the truth was that Gabriel and Bianca didnโ€™t treat their own flesh and blood daughter right.

โ€œResentment can be inherited with the past. Not every parent in this world has kids they love. They donโ€™t love you, but I do.โ€

Just as Wyatt finished speaking, the housekeeper came to the door. She looked surprised when she saw him and Abigail, then quickly rushed over to let them in. โ€œI called this morning to say weโ€™d be back tonight. Why did it take you so long to answer the door?โ€ Wyatt immediately confronted the housekeeper once the door opened.

The housekeeper stepped back nervously. โ€œI checked a few times this evening, but when I didnโ€™t see anyone, I thought you werenโ€™t coming back after all.โ€

โ€œThis is absolutely ridiculous!โ€ Wyatt said as he walked with Abigail across the courtyard and straight toward the house. The housekeeper watched Abigail and hurried to follow them. Actually, nobody had mentioned that Abigail was coming back today. Just yesterday, Daniella had returned and spent the whole time fighting with Bianca, blaming everything on Abigail and calling her heartless. Gabriel had said that if Abigail ever dared set foot in the Gibson house again, heโ€™d break her legs. Well, now she was back.

Wyatt led Abigail into the living room by the hand. Gabriel immediately walked over, but the moment he saw Abigail beside Wyatt, his face turned ice cold. โ€œHow does she have the nerve to come back?โ€
