Listen to this chapter:

Tavor immediately looked panicked. โ€œBut I didnโ€™t take notes during the meeting.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s fine. I did. Iโ€™m sending you the file now. Just get the summary done before you leave and go see Mr. Robinson. He doesnโ€™t wait around for anyone,โ€ Abigail finished speaking and went back to her work.

Leon stood up with his coffee mug and walked past Trevor, patting him on the shoulder. โ€œGood luck, Trevor.โ€

As the workday was ending, Trevor watched Abigail packing up her things to leave. He quickly stood up, his voice awkward and embarrassed. โ€œI canโ€™t do a good summary. Maybe you should go instead?โ€ His face was bright red as he said it. Trevor wouldnโ€™t dare go, even if he could do a decent job. Everyone knew Sebastian was a perfectionist at work who loved finding fault with everything. Timothy himself would probably get chewed out for saying the wrong thing. Trevor knew he didnโ€™t stand a chance.

Leon leaned back in his chair and chuckled. โ€œYouโ€™re bringing this up right before quitting time? Are you picking on Abigail because sheโ€™s new?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m about to clock out, so you can handle it yourself. Besides, Mr. Newman already requested a different person. If I show up again, Mr. Robinsonโ€™s going to think Halden Group is jerking him around,โ€ Abigail slung her bag over her shoulder, ready to leave.

Trevor broke out in a cold sweat. โ€œLook, I was out of line before. I was just joking around. You didnโ€™t have to take it so seriously. Come on. Just go this once. Iโ€™ll buy you coffee tomorrow to make up for it, okay?โ€

Abigail didnโ€™t respond. She pulled out her phone and started playing a game, completely ignoring him.

โ€œAbigail, Iโ€™m really sorry about earlier. Canโ€™t I just apologize?โ€ Trevor was sweating bullets now, kicking himself for running his mouth.

Heโ€™d met Sebastian once before at a project bidding meeting with several companies. Sebastian had been brutal. Every question was designed to trip them up, and heโ€™d torn apart each companyโ€™s representatives until they looked like complete idiots. Trevor knew exactly what he was capable of, and it wasnโ€™t much. If he had to present that summary, Sebastian would absolutely destroy him.

Abigail acted like she couldnโ€™t hear his apologies at all.

โ€œHe already apologized, Abigail. Just give the guy a way out. Besides, this project is something weโ€™re all working on together. You donโ€™t want Mr. Robinson to drop us because of him, do you?โ€ One of their coworkers jumped in to defend Trevor.

Abigail had just finished a level on her game and checked the timeโ€“it was already quitting time. She closed the game and looked up at her colleague.

โ€œHe insulted me over and over again, so of course he should apologize,โ€ she said flatly. โ€œBut whether I accept his apology is my business, not yours. If youโ€™re so worried about him, you can go with him yourself.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re all in the same department here. You donโ€™t have to be so harsh about it,โ€ the coworker said, clearly annoyed.

โ€œWhere were you when he was being harsh to me? Why didnโ€™t you speak up for me then?โ€ Abigail shot back.

โ€œDidnโ€™t he say women donโ€™t try hard enough? You had your chance, but you couldnโ€™t handle it,โ€ Leon said with obvious satisfaction.

โ€œLetโ€™s go. Itโ€™s time to clock out,โ€ Abigail told him.

โ€œYou got it!โ€ Leon replied immediately.

Trevor started to say something else, but Leon cut him off. โ€œDonโ€™t waste time. Youโ€™ve got to meet Mr. Robinson. Heโ€™s waiting for you at the Victoria Grand Hotel, so you better hurry up and get ready.โ€

Chapter 1291

Leon caught up with Abigail as they left the office. โ€œPeople like that who canโ€™t say anything decent deserve to get put in their place.โ€

Abigail smiled slightly. โ€œThanks for backing me up.โ€

โ€œBut wonโ€™t Mr. Robinson be pissed that you didnโ€™t show up? What if he gives you hell next time?โ€ Leon felt satisfied about what had just transpired, but he couldnโ€™t help worrying about Abigail.

โ€œI wrote up a summary. When he calls to chew me out, Iโ€™ll go over it with him on the phone. That should cool him down a bit.โ€ Abigailโ€™s eyes sparkled with amusement as she spoke.

Leon gave her a thumbs up. โ€œYouโ€™ve got guts, Iโ€™ll give you that. But what if he thinks Halden Group is just messing around with him? He might get even angrier.โ€

โ€œIf my feedback doesnโ€™t satisfy him, Iโ€™ll definitely get an earful. But if heโ€™s happy with it, he wonโ€™t care about the rest.โ€ Abigail figured Sebastian didnโ€™t sweat the small stuff anyway. He only cared about results. Good results meant everyone got a pass. Bad results meant heads would roll.

โ€œYou seem to know him pretty well,โ€ Leon said carefully, testing the waters.

Abigail paused for a moment, then kept walking toward the elevator. โ€œUnderstanding your business partners is part of the job. How else can you work together effectively?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re way more professional than I am. No wonder Mr. Newman always sends you to handle client meetings.โ€ Leon looked genuinely impressed.

The two of them walked out of Halden Group together, and Abigail was about to say goodbye to Leon when she heard Stephenโ€™s voice. โ€œAbby, Iโ€™m here to pick you up from work.โ€
