Chapter 172
Abigail thought for a moment and then nodded. She patted Codeโs soft belly, still very happy to play with the cats.
โThen letโs first record your identity info,โ Sebastian said to Abigail, pushing aside the keyboard.
After she completed fingerprint and facial recognition at the door lock, he checked the time and asked, โStaying here tonight?โ
Abigail looked at him. โI want to go home.โ
โI promise I wonโt do anything to you. Every room has locks. Just sleep here for one night,โ Sebastian walked to her, leaned down, and looked her in the eyes.
Abigail looked up and met his gaze, feeling very conflicted, but still asked, โWhy?โ
โYou tell me?โ Sebastian had a smile on his face, but his tone carried a hint of helplessness.
He let her stay because he liked her.
Abigail wasnโt even sure if she used to like Ralph. But during her time in prison, the way Ralph looked down on her gradually shattered her feelings for him. She didnโt think he was someone she really liked after all.
โJust this once. If you still donโt want to, Iโll still take you home,โ Sebastian said, standing up straight.
โI didnโt bring pajamas,โ Abigail said softly.
โIโll ask Jeremiah to bring them for you. You just need to wait for about half an hour. In the meantime, you can play with the cats,โ Sebastianโs face lit up after she agreed.
โOkay. But I need to let Grandpa know. Otherwise, heโll worry,โ Abigail said gently.
โOf course,โ Sebastian replied, then bent down to pick up Orange, who had been clinging to his foot. โCome, let me show you your room.โ
He didnโt even realize how cheerful his tone sounded when he turned around with Orange in his arms.
Abigail waited in the room for about half an hour. Jeremiah showed up with a large bag of things at Sebastianโs villa.
โLong time no see,โ Abigail greeted him with a smile as soon as she saw him.
Jeremiah said, โYeah, Iโve been super busy. Howโs it going at Hald Group with Mr. Robinson?โ
It felt like a greeting between old friends. Abigail had been feeling a bit uneasy about staying at Sebastianโs place, but Jeremiahโs words helped her relax. She said, โItโs been good. Theyโve all been kind to me.โ
โThatโs good.โ Jeremiah unfolded the clothes and placed them neatly in the wardrobe. โThese are all washed and clean. You can wear them right away. Good night.โ
Abigail said, โThanks.โ
That night, Abigail slept soundly. Just like Sebastian said, after Jeremiah brought the clothes, Sebastian never showed up again. Abigail didnโt really understand why Sebastian insisted on her staying over.
Feeling the warm golden sunlight pouring through the white curtains in the morning, Abigailโs first instinct was to reach for her phone. She had gone to bed around 3 a.m. the night before, so when she woke up it was already close to noon.
She got out of bed, tidied up her pajamas, and walked over to the window. The sunlight outside was especially beautiful.
Looking down, she saw Sebastian lying on the lawn in the courtyard, a book covering his face. Orange was curled up in his arm, with two other cats lying on his legs, and another one on his chest. He was completely surrounded by cats.
Abigail found the scene beautiful and quickly took out her phone to snap a photo of him and the cats. After taking the picture, she washed up and headed downstairs.
At the door of the villa, she stood for a moment, watching him nap peacefully with the cats. The sight filled her with a longing for a beautiful life. Her heart seemed to soften with it.
By the time Abigail finished lunch, Sebastian had woken up.
โYou nap with the cats like that every day?โ Abigail asked, sitting in the living room.
Sebastian still looked a little drowsy. He replied, โNo, not usually. I rarely have time to spend with them. Work is busy.โ
โThe kittens must miss you a lot,โ Abigail murmured.
โBut Iโve heard that kittens are all heartless little creatures. Whoever feeds them is who they like,โ Sebastian said, giving Abigail a meaningful glance.
Abigail felt like he was referring to her. She hoped she was just overthinking it.
โBut you hired people to feed them, and theyโre still so attached to you,โ she whispered back.
โI donโt let the feeders get near them. They come in from the back door, go to the catsโ kitchen, quietly prep the food, and leave. I call the cats through the monitor to eat, so they think Iโm the one who feeds them,โ Sebastian said.
Hearing this, Abigail couldnโt help but think, โThis man is really cunning as hell.โ
