Listen to this chapter:

While playing with the kittens, Sebastian said, โ€œJeremiah has helped get you a day off. You can rest here today. I have to go out and probably wonโ€™t be back tonight. The person who makes food for the cats will come in the afternoon. If youโ€™d like, you can learn from her.โ€ As he said this, Sebastian turned and headed back inside.

Abigail nodded.

After Sebastian left, Abigail saw it was still early, so she left the villa and went to the nearby commercial street to buy a few electronic gadgets. Then she returned.

Sebastian had told her the person making cat food had arrived. Abigail went to the independent kitchen in the backyard and saw a round-faced girl with a warm smile.

Seeing her struggling to take things out of the freezer, Abigail walked over and said, โ€œHi.โ€

โ€œAh, the owner of this house told meโ€”you want to observe how I make cat food?โ€ The girl, named Daisy Lawrence, placed the frozen beef on the counter and smiled sweetly.

Abigail was immediately drawn in by her friendly demeanor and quickly responded, โ€œDo your thing, donโ€™t mind me.โ€

Sebastian probably still wanted to keep some things discreet, so he hadnโ€™t said she was actually here to learn how to cook for the cats.

Daisy pulled out loads of frozen raw meat from the freezer: beef, chicken, deep-sea fish, and even animal liversโ€”sterilized chicken livers includedโ€”as well as supplements like coenzymes, vitamins, and poultry bones.

Abigail was stunned. The ingredients for cat food were so extensive. With all kinds of vitamins added, Abigail found she couldnโ€™t understand any of them.

โ€œSo complicated,โ€ she said to Daisy.

โ€œThis is what raw feeding looks like. If itโ€™s too much trouble, giving them a high-quality commercial cat food is fine too,โ€ Daisy said to Abigail.

โ€œThen why do some people go to all this effort to cook food like this for their cats?โ€ Abigail asked curiously.

Daisy said, โ€œRaw feeding is closer to their biological needs, though the standards are higher. A properly balanced raw diet keeps cats healthier. Plus, you can control the quality of the ingredients. A lot of commercial cat food is made from terrible sources, so some owners, for their catsโ€™ safety, are willing to spend the time making it themselves,โ€ Daisy explained with a smile.

Abigail nodded lightly and stayed quiet, watching her work intently.

There were eleven cats in Sebastianโ€™s home, so Daisy prepared eleven portions.

During their conversation, Abigail learned that Daisy had studied veterinary nutrition just so she could cook for cats professionally. This wasnโ€™t something just anyone could learn. Sebastian mustโ€™ve been joking when he said Abigail could โ€œlearn it.โ€

Daisy said, โ€œThis is the most pampered cat household Iโ€™ve ever seen. This kitchen is even nicer than mine. That fridge alone costs tens of thousands of dollars, and itโ€™s just for the cats. Even the bowls are all custom-made. I heard someone is specially hired just to wash themโ€”so extravagant!โ€ she added.

After finishing the meals, Daisy said to Abigail with open envy, โ€œThese cats live better than I do. I have another client to visit, but Iโ€™ll be back tomorrow to teach you again.โ€

Abigail saw her off at the gate. When she returned to the kitchen, she examined the custom bowls Sebastian had made for the cats. The bowls came with built-in sterilization and insulation to gently warm the food, so it wouldnโ€™t be too cold and upset the catsโ€™ stomachs.

Abigail now completely agreed with what Daisy had said.

After leaving the kitchen, Abigail spotted James playing with the cats in the yard and walked over to him.

As soon as James saw her, his face lit up. โ€œSeb said you were here. I was worried youโ€™d already left.โ€

โ€œI was watching a veterinary nutritionist make cat foodโ€”wanted to learn, but itโ€™s way too complicated, so I gave up,โ€ Abigail said with an embarrassed smile.

James sat down holding a Siberian cat and said, โ€œI think itโ€™s complicated too. All those vitamin and calcium-phosphorus ratios make my head spin. Your strength is in programming, not feeding cats. So, howโ€™s your stay here?โ€

Abigail noticed the fur on his sleeve. This group of Sebastianโ€™s friends wasnโ€™t just rich, they were all extremely good-looking too.

โ€œWith cats around, I feel relaxed.โ€ Abigail sat down and picked up Code, who had nudged up beside her. But Code was honestly too big. She had to put him down after a short while, arms sore.

โ€œWhen youโ€™re feeling down, come here to pet cats,โ€ James said with a smile.

Abigail nodded. She had guessed it tooโ€”Sebastian probably had her stay here last night because he thought the cats could heal her.

James, still holding the cat, leaned in a bit. โ€œYou really donโ€™t like Seb? Iโ€™m telling you, any man who loves cats definitely has a gentle heart. If a guy treats cats with impatience or irritability, you should run.โ€

Abigail replied, โ€œI believe cats can sense a personโ€™s violent nature.โ€
