Chapter 318

Abigail stared at Stephen and snapped, โ€œTake it literally. Canโ€™t you understand that?โ€

Stephenโ€™s breath grew heavy, his jaw clenched. โ€œAbigail, how dare you talk to me like that? Youโ€™re clearly more disgusting, okay? You already broke off the engagement with the Fletcher family, and yet you let Ralph drive you home. Donโ€™t pretend you werenโ€™t trying to seduce him."

The moment the words left Stephenโ€™s lips, both Gabrielโ€™s and Biancaโ€™s expressions turned cloudy.

Abigail suddenly let out a bitter laugh, one laced with pure sarcasm. โ€œOf course. A filthy heart sees filth in everything, Stephen. I take back what I said earlier."

Before his face could soften, Abigail added, โ€œYouโ€™re even more disgusting than I thought.โ€

Stephenโ€™s face turned stormy upon hearing those words.

Gabriel snapped, โ€œAbigail, how can you talk to your brother like that? Apologize to him.โ€

Blanca chimed in, trying to smooth things over, โ€œAbby, Stevie may have said something harsh, but heโ€™s only looking out for you. Itโ€™s best if you keep your distance from Ralph, you know?โ€

Abigail cast Gabriel a cold glance and asked, โ€œIs it he who sent Grandpa to the nursing home? Answer me.โ€ She didnโ€™t even bother responding to Biancaโ€™s words.

Gabrielโ€™s expression stiffened, a flicker of disorientation surfacing. โ€œAbigail, sending your grandfather to the nursing home was a decision we made long ago. It has nothing to do with Stevie.โ€

โ€œI told you heโ€™d come back. Itโ€™s not like you wonโ€™t see him again.โ€ Gabrielโ€™s tone turned clearly impatient.

Abigail slowly turned her gaze on everyone present, her eyes scanning each face before putting on a mocking smile. โ€œI shouldโ€™ve seen it sooner. How could I expect a family that throws their own daughter under the bus to take the fall for someone else to keep their word? I was too naive.โ€

Gabrielโ€™s rage ignited upon hearing her words. He slammed his palm down on the table and stood up with a jolt. โ€œYou ungrateful brat. Say that again if you dare!"

Bianca flinched in fear, but what hit her more was the sting of Abigailโ€™s words.

โ€œNo matter how many times I say it, it wonโ€™t erase the fact that she killed someone.โ€ Abigailโ€™s gaze turned icy as it swept over to Daniella. Then she turned around and walked away.

โ€œAbby, you havenโ€™t even had breakfast,โ€ Blanca called out instinctively.

But Stephen, brimming with fury, cut her off, โ€œI knew it. She still holds a grudge over that thing. Thatโ€™s why sheโ€™s starting fights this early in the morning. Fine, let her go. Donโ€™t let her have a single bite in this house again. Does she really think we owe her anything? Getting to take the fall for Dani was a blessing for her. An orphan thinks sheโ€™s someone special? What a joke.โ€

At those words, Abigailโ€™s steps faltered for a split second. Then she turned slowly and looked straight at Stephen. โ€œDare sure. But did I choose to live in the orphanage when I was young? I may be nothing in your eyes, but I am your blood relative, your sister by birth. I didnโ€™t ask to steal my life."

Her words sucked the air from Stephenโ€™s lungs. Even Gabriel and Bianca felt a weight drop into their chests. After all, Abigail was their biological daughter.

Noticing everyoneโ€™s strange expressions, Daniella immediately began sobbing, her eyes red. โ€œAbby just canโ€™t wait to see Grandpa. Thatโ€™s why sheโ€™s talking back like this. Itโ€™s all my fault. My presence makes Abby feel insecure. Maybe I should just move out.โ€

The moment Stephen heard Daniella say sheโ€™d move out, his discomfort vanished. He even started to suspect why Abigail spoke about her grandfather.

โ€œIf anyoneโ€™s moving out, it should be her,โ€ Stephen said loudly, intentionally for Abigail to hear. โ€œShe keeps harping on blood ties, but you grew up with usโ€“not her!โ€

He sneered inwardly, 'Letโ€™s see how long she lasts out there. Sheโ€™s been in prison for three years. Sheโ€™s probably way behind society by now. Once people see her criminal record, no one will take her in. Sheโ€™ll come back to apologize to us soon enough.โ€

Abigail didnโ€™t even care about Stephenโ€™s words. Without turning back, she walked away.

Bianca watched her leave and recalled what Abigail had just said. Bianca sat down in low spirits, murmuring to Gabriel, โ€œLetโ€™s just eat.โ€

Blanca and Gabriel didnโ€™t rush to comfort Daniella, and that alone made Daniella feel a flicker of insecurity rise up inside.

Once Abigail stepped out of the Gibson Villa, she let out a breath she hadnโ€™t realized sheโ€™d been holding. Her entire body relaxed. If it werenโ€™t for meeting her grandfather, she wouldnโ€™t have stayed even a second longer.

Just then, her phone rang. Abigail pulled it from her pocket and found it was a call from Timothy.

She answered the call and immediately heard Timothyโ€™s urgent voice. โ€œAbigail, the headquarters just called. Youโ€™re needed on a business trip. You gotta head to the airport immediately.โ€

Hearing the urgency in his voice, Abigail guessed this was a last-minute arrangement. She asked, โ€œWhere am I going? Am I going alone?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re headed to Chesterwick. Youโ€™ll be traveling with Mr. Robinson from the headquarters,โ€ Timothy replied.

Abigailโ€™s mind instantly flashed to a face from prison when she heard that surname. She wondered, โ€˜Could it be him?โ€

Her grip on the phone tightened, and her voice softened unintentionally. โ€œAlright, How many days will it take? What do I need to bring?โ€

It was her first time on a business trip, and she had no idea what to pack.

โ€œUhโ€ฆโ€ Timothy was caught off guard. He had tons of business travel experience, but he was a guy, and he wasnโ€™t clear what women would need during a business trip.

He then replied, "I'll find out for you. Just go to the airport now. If you need anything, you can buy it once you get to Chesterwick.โ€

He was about to hang up when Abigailโ€™s voice stopped him. โ€œI just started this job. I donโ€™t have extra money to buy things on a whim. Can you tell me now, so I can go back and get what I need?โ€
