Chapter 95
Abigail got out of the taxi. Just as she reached the entrance of Halden Group, she spotted Ralph. She glanced at him once, then remained silent and continued walking toward the building.
Ralph stepped forward to block her. โAbby, you must have heard about Stephenโs hit-and-run. Itโs been widely talked about in the circle. I visited him yesterday, and he said with red eyes that he wants to see you.โ
Abigail raised her eyes, her gaze cold as she said calmly, โWhat, does he want me to teach him how to survive in prison?โ
Ralph was stunned for a moment by her words, then frowned and said, โHe just said he wants to see you, and he told me he was wronged.โ
Abigail was not surprised by this. She knew who the real hit-and-run culprit was and had solid evidence, but she simply didnโt want to waste time getting involved in the Gibson familyโs affairs.
โIf Stephen was wronged, you should tell the police or find a lawyer for him. I believe that with careful investigation, the real hit-and-run perpetrator will definitely be found,โ Abigail said, then sidestepped Ralph.
Ralph immediately grabbed her wrist and stared intently at the frowning Abigail. โI donโt know why he insists on seeing you, but he said he hopes you can meet him no matter what. Abby, I know you hate the Gibson family, but Stephen was on your side regarding the Halden Group incident. Heโs already regretted misunderstanding you. He also wants to make amends, but he didnโt expect to be framed. Can you just meet him?โ
Abigail first realized that Ralph could be quite talkative. That was because it came to his good friend. Back when she was imprisoned and told him she was wronged, he didnโt say a word. Even under the Gibson familyโs unified story, he didnโt even doubt it and told her to reflect in her cell.
โWhat does the Gibson family say? Do they think he was wronged?โ Abigail calmly pulled back her hand, her tone as indifferent as ever.
โGabriel said it depends on the police investigation. I asked the police, and his car hit someone at 9:30 PM, but at that time, I clearly remember he phoned me that Christian had suddenly come home for Daniella,โ Ralph said while observing Abigailโs expression.
Abigailโs demeanor remained unchanged, and she showed no reaction upon hearing this. Looking at Ralph, who was watching her, she asked softly, โAnd what about you?โ
Ralph frowned and said solemnly, โI know Stevie well. Since he says he was wronged, there must be something hidden in this case, but he also said not to find a lawyer to defend him. I donโt understand.โ
Abigail let out a cold snort. So Ralph had a brain. He believed there was a hidden truth because Stephen said he was wronged. But back then, when Abigail had begged him to believe her, he hadnโt trusted a single word.
Abigailโs cold laugh made Ralph freeze for a moment, but he quickly realized why she did that.
The car sped toward the detention center in Cobridge. Abigailโs face was clearly calm, without resentment or unwillingness, but Ralph, who was driving, felt restless. The past he had ignored kept uncontrollably flashing into his mind.
When she was in prison, she had also said she was wronged, that she hadnโt committed a hit-and-run or any crime.
Ralphโs heart felt as if someone was squeezing it, and he had trouble breathing. He thought, โWas she really framed and sent to prison?โ
At the detention center, with Ralphโs help, Abigail saw Stephen, who looked extremely awful. It was obvious he had been beaten. But this was within her expectations; those guys would definitely look for opportunities to beat him once they knew his last name.
Stephen looked at Abigailโs cold face and wanted to say something to lighten the vibe, but when he opened his mouth, he suddenly choked up. Seeing her again, he only felt guilty. Stephen lowered his head, his eyes filled with tears.
Abigail frowned and wasnโt moved by his pitiful appearance at all. โIโm very busy at work. If you havenโt adjusted, donโt ask others to have the...โ
โAbby,โ he choked out, โIโm sorry.โ Stephen knew his belated apology was of no use, but he felt guilty if he didnโt say it.
Abigail looked at him indifferently. โYouโve experienced what I once went through, so youโve repented, have you? Do you think Iโd care about your apology?โ
Upon hearing her words, Ralph beside them frowned even more.
