Listen to this chapter:

Once Phillip and Gianna started arguing, it seemed to go on forever. Derek held his head in frustration. “That’s enough. Stop arguing. Now that the necklace has been found, let’s just drop it. We must repay the life-saving favor we received from others. Let’s find an opportunity to return this kindness.”

Phillip was rather reluctant. “What should I do, then? I just sent him away, and now I’m supposed to go and thank him? Won’t that be too embarrassing?”

Derek glared at Phillip. “What do you care about being embarrassed? It’s a tradition in the Sherman family to repay kindness. If you can’t even manage that, don’t dare refer to yourself as my son!”

Phillip fell silent. The next moment, he grumbled, “So be it. I don’t care anyway…”

“What did you say? I dare you to say it again!”

“I didn’t say a thing.”

After some discussion, the trio unanimously decided that, in the days to come, the Sherman family would unconditionally assist Caleb in accomplishing one task. As long as it wasn’t anything as severe as murder or arson, and within the capabilities of the Sherman family, they would spare no effort to assist him. However, there was a condition: from then on, Gianna had to sever all ties with Caleb. They couldn’t meet in any form or manner.

At that time, Gianna had no choice but to agree, succumbing to the pressure from her father. Recalling the promise she had made, Gianna turned somber and fell silent.

Norman let out a sigh. “Ms. Sherman, you’ve had it tough.” Of course, he wanted to step in and help her. Unfortunately, he was merely a butler with little to no say in the matter. Moreover, there was some truth to what Phillip had said. Before Caleb woke up, they couldn’t allow Gianna to be with him with peace of mind. After all, this was a matter of great significance to Gianna.

A week had passed when, one day, Caleb’s fingers twitched slightly. In his semi-conscious state, he could hear someone speaking beside him.

“Caleb, do you know? In fact, the whole incident was masterminded by Yelena. The HLA matching report was tampered with.”

Caleb’s heart gave a sudden jolt, and his eyes flew open. “What did you say?” He gripped Jesse’s wrist tightly, his voice harsh and urgent.

Jesse was startled, instinctively trying to pull his wrist free, but Caleb’s grip was too strong, which left him unable to withdraw his hand for a moment. “Caleb, y–you’re awake?” Jesse didn’t realize that Caleb would suddenly wake up, let alone anticipate the latter’s sudden outburst. Thus, in his extreme panic, he could only muster a rhetorical question.

“What else, then?” The look in Caleb’s eyes seemed to hold a venomous edge. “If I hadn’t woken up, would I have been able to hear your great secret?” Perhaps Jesse assumed that he would continue to sleep and so he recklessly spilled out matters that should have remained a secret.

Jesse hung his head in guilt. “Caleb, I never intended for you to hear any of this.” He simply wished for Caleb to die, oblivious to everything.

Caleb found it amusing. “You’re trying to kill me, yet you’re worried about me hearing such things?” His eyes darted toward Jesse’s hand. Jesse’s hand was poised over the tube inserted in his body. Had he not awakened just in time, Jesse would have succeeded.

“I–I didn’t…” With all his might, Jesse tried to pull his wrist back, but realizing it was futile, he employed his other hand. It was only when he used both hands that he managed to pry open a small gap from Caleb’s grip. However, at that moment, Caleb was engulfed in a fit of rage, and his strength was honed from his past experiences in prison. Hence, even though he had just awakened, Jesse was no match for him.
