Revenge Forged in Prison

Chapter 154: Driven By Guilt

When he woke up again, the first thing he saw was still the white ceiling. After that, he saw Chelsea, whose face was filled with guilt.

He wanted to ask something, but the astonishing heaviness of his body left him with absolutely no desire to speak.

Chelsea uttered guiltily, “Caleb, I’m truly sorry. I came back as soon as I got the news, but it was still too late, and you ended up getting hurt.” She knew her mother had issues with Caleb and was always looking to give him a hard time. Therefore, she had someone keep an eye on her mother, instructing them to call her immediately if her mother showed any signs of unusual behavior.

However, despite her rushing back at the fastest speed possible, the traffic congestion was so severe that her car could not move an inch. By the time her car was able to move forward, forty minutes had already passed.

The guilt in Chelsea’s eyes was so intense that it couldn’t be dissolved. Just as she was about to continue her apology, she heard Caleb ask, “Why did you save me?”

“Huh?”

“Why did you save me?” Caleb repeated patiently. “I don’t get it. Chelsea is, after all, Madam Yardley’s daughter. Logically speaking, a daughter’s personality shouldn’t be too far off from her mother’s. However, Chelsea is gentle-natured and has numerous times saved me from dire straits. This is in stark contrast to her temperamental mother, to the point where it’s hard to believe that they’re actually mother and daughter. Though Caleb was a child of the Quixall family, his surname had been taken from him, and he had become someone who had lost everything. All in all, Chelsea’s helping him not only resulted in no rewards but also risked angering her own mother. It was an action where the losses outweighed the gains.”

No matter how much he racked his brains, Caleb couldn’t figure out the reason. That was why he asked her that question.

Chelsea calmed herself down, responding, “Perhaps it’s out of guilt.”

Guilt? Caleb’s confusion deepened.

Chelsea, however, did not respond. Instead, she said, “Let me tell you about the origins of those three individuals. I believe you have the right to know.”

Regardless of whether Caleb was willing to listen or not, she simply went on to say, “Those three men were brothers. The eldest was called Leo Waller, the second was Theo Waller, and the youngest was Milo Waller. Before your car accident, they seized the moment when I was off duty and tied me up before stashing me in the trunk of a car. After that, they tossed me off a bridge. I can’t swim, and coupled with an innate fear of the ocean, I quickly sank. However, fortunately, someone saved me. The person who saved me asked me not to mention him to others, so for now, I’ll refrain from revealing his identity. After I returned, my mother…”

At this point, a hint of helplessness flickered in Chelsea’s eyes. “You already know what happened next. Hating you and loathing them, my mom locked you all together to pit you against each other.”

“I see…” At last, Caleb understood. It was a clever move from Miriam. She could potentially eliminate all four of the people she disliked without even lifting a finger. However, what she hadn’t expected was that Caleb, with his great fortune, would manage to defeat the other three individuals single-handedly, even before his injuries had fully healed. Ultimately, he survived.

Caleb’s emotions were in turmoil, and he asked, “If you help me, won’t your mom scold you?”

Chelsea was taken aback for a moment. Afterward, she smiled and shook her head gently. “No. That won’t happen.”
