Chapter 155: Leave the Hospital

“Why not?” Caleb asked. Madam Yardley had raised her daughter so well, and she’s protective of her. Hence, not scolding Chelsea was probably due to her love.

The next words spoken by Chelsea, however, left him utterly astounded.

“Because of you, Caleb.”

Under Caleb’s puzzled gaze, Chelsea continued, “It’s because you managed to defeat those three despite your poor physical condition. My mom admires your courage. Hence, from now on, she probably won’t lay a hand on you again.”

Despite Miriam’s unpleasant demeanor and tendency to take harsh actions, she was a woman of principles. Mom had always been generous with her praise for those commoners who dared to defy her and yet managed to survive. For instance… Chelsea’s gaze dimmed, as if she were reminded of some unpleasant past events.

Without intending to touch upon her painful past, Caleb simply asked, “How did you manage to convince Madam Yardley to save me after my car accident?”

Upon seeing the look of astonishment in Chelsea’s eyes, he added, “This is the Yardley family’s hospital, isn’t it?”

That’s what he’s talking about… I thought… Chelsea composed herself and answered, “Actually, I wasn’t the one who truly saved you. If you’re referring to the transfer to the Yardley family hospital, I can explain that. When you were unconscious, Mr. Quixall wanted to take you back. Ms. Sherman objected, but due to family obligations, she was unable to stop him. At that time, I was just about to visit you when I saw those two in the middle of an argument. Left with no choice, I had to exert the authority of my family, forcing Mr. Quixall to back off. However, as a result, I had to plead with my mom, convincing her to move you to this hospital to have the best medical team treat you.”

Upon hearing that, Caleb felt there was something that didn’t quite add up. I stabbed Madam Yardley, though… Being the kind of person she is, how could Madam Yardley possibly let go of her prejudices against me just because of her daughter’s persistent pleas, let alone getting a doctor to treat me? Even though she loves her daughter deeply, she wouldn’t compromise her principles for her, would she? Therefore, at the very least, Chelsea has lied about this matter. She didn’t persuade Madam Yardley through persistent coaxing, but instead, she’s employed some other tactics…

Perhaps Caleb’s emotions were too overt, so a trace of awkwardness crossed Chelsea’s face. She didn’t clarify things for Caleb. Instead, she said, “Let me call the doctor for you. He’s also quite concerned about your condition.”

After she finished speaking, she got up and left. Not long after, Zeke, whom Caleb had met before, walked in.

“Mr. Jenkins, do you feel unwell anywhere?”

“Other than the pain from the wound, there’s no difference from before,” Caleb replied truthfully.

Zeke nodded. “Mr. Jenkins, be mindful every day not to aggravate your wounds. Give it some time, and you’ll recover.”

Caleb didn’t respond. Suddenly, he asked, “When can I be discharged from the hospital?”

Zeke said in surprise, “Mr. Jenkins, your injuries are quite severe, and you need to stay in the hospital for observation for a while longer. If you leave now and your wounds reopen, or if any aftereffects from the car accident were to flare up, what would you do then?”

Caleb was nonchalant. “So what if they reopen? All I need to do is rinse them with clear water.”

“You really are…” Zeke nearly lost his usual composure and uttered some crude remarks. Having calmed himself down, Zeke said, “Regardless, Mr. Jenkins, you simply cannot be discharged from the hospital.”
