Chapter 157: Ask Yourself

With a hint of exhaustion, Caleb said, “Come in.” Unexpectedly, he noticed the person’s breathing was somewhat hurried.

Just as he lifted his head, intending to see what was going on, he saw something flying straight toward his face. Due to the suddenness of the event, he was unable to react in time and was hit square in the face by the object. Accompanied by a cracking sound, something sticky adhered to his face. He reached up to touch it, only to find his hand covered in egg yolk.

“Mr. Jenkins, drop dead!”

Once again, several eggs were thrown his way. This time, Caleb was prepared and easily dodged them. Regrettably, the walls and windowsills were smeared with egg residue, making the cleanup extremely bothersome.

Caleb looked at the person coldly and asked, “Who let you in?” The individual was a bespectacled female university student. When she saw Caleb—an evildoer in her eyes—daring to question her, she couldn’t help but become really angry.

“It’s only natural for people to disapprove of you, considering all the wrongdoings you’ve committed!” The angry roar echoed throughout the entire ward, attracting many hospital staff and waiting patients.

“Excuse me! Excuse me!”

Wendy managed to weave through the bustling crowd, successfully catching sight of the scene ahead. The moment she saw clearly, she covered her mouth and exclaimed, “Gosh, Mr. Jenkins! It was just a few days ago you were roughing up Jesse, and now you’re picking on an ordinary university student?”

Caleb pointed calmly at the traces on the wall. “Ms. Patterson, take a look at the egg residue on the wall. From this angle, do you think it’s possible that I could have thrown those eggs myself?”

Wendy’s eyes flickered. “Why not? Mr. Jenkins, stop making excuses. I know you’re upset because you’re hurt, but you can’t resort to violence against ordinary people! If this continues, you’re going to ruin the hospital’s reputation. Who would dare to come for treatment in the future?”

Caleb was seething with anger. “I believe you know who’s right and who’s wrong. Let’s not even bring up the matter of the egg residue. Who let this girl in? She’s neither a patient nor a family member of one. Who permitted her to enter?”

That girl wouldn’t have possibly found her way in if no one had guided her. It wasn’t possible to casually stroll through a hospital and accurately find the ward one intended to visit.

Wendy brushed it off, saying, “Who said she’s not a relative of a patient? The patient in bed thirty-three…”

Caleb was furious. “If she’s here to visit her family, why has she ended up in my room?”

Wendy hinted subtly, saying, “Well, that’s something you’ll have to ask yourself, Mr. Jenkins.”

People instantly understood and directed ambiguous laughter toward Caleb. A young man whistled in Caleb’s direction and said, “Mr. Jenkins, you’re really something. I’m rooting for you!” The laughter among the people grew even louder.

Originally, Caleb was already in pain from his wounds, but their collective teasing only fueled his anger even more.

“Get out, all of you!” he barked, his voice echoing in the room. “Also, those of you who can’t see clearly, go clear your eyes before you return. Stop believing everything you hear without question!”

“Oh, no… Have you gotten angry out of embarrassment, Mr. Jenkins?” Wendy feigned fear and added, “I ought to leave now, lest you decide to hit me later, Mr. Jenkins.”

With a resentful gaze, Caleb watched her retreating figure. He should have given this woman a good thrashing the moment he woke up that day. Hitting her now would do more harm than good.

Half of the spectators had left, but the young man who had instigated the commotion and the female university student who had thrown eggs at Caleb didn’t leave. It seemed as though they were waiting for something.
