Chapter 164: She Was Not Wrong

Chelsea gave a faint, ambiguous smile. “Because your father already sold him to our family. Caleb belongs to the Yardleys now, not to the Quixalls.”

“What?” Yelena was stunned. “When did that happen?”

Her expression hardened. “Ms. Yardley, you better be careful with what you say. Our family may not be as powerful as the Yardley family, but if you slander us, we won’t hesitate to take you to court.”

Chelsea’s cold smile deepened. “If you want the truth, maybe you should ask your father yourself.”

Yelena didn’t believe her. Right in front of Chelsea, she pulled out her phone and called George. “Dad, it’s me… Yeah, I’m at the hospital. Can we put that aside for a second? I just need to ask—did you really sell Caleb to the Yardleys? Ms. Yardley just told me he’s not part of our family anymore.”

There was a long silence on the other end. Then, finally, George’s raspy voice came through. “Yes. She’s right. I already sold Caleb to the Yardleys a while ago.”

The original plan had been to let Miriam torment Caleb until he broke, then drag him back and use him to replace Jesse’s heart. But things spiraled. Not only had Miriam failed to control Caleb, the kid had somehow slipped away. He caused a scene, and they hadn’t even settled the score with him yet.

Yelena was frozen. “Dad, how could you do that? He’s still family, no matter what! Even if he made mistakes, we should’ve dealt with it ourselves. How could you just give him away?”

George’s response was sharp. “You questioning me? Don’t forget, when the police came for him, you did the same thing I did!”

Her arms hung limply by her side. His words felt distant, muffled, like echoes in a tunnel. She could only think one thing: It’s all over; utterly over. Caleb was no longer hers. He wasn’t the little boy who used to trail behind her, calling out to her with a wide grin anymore. She had pushed him away with her own hands.

As the reality sank in, Yelena broke down, sobbing uncontrollably. Chelsea watched with a cold frown. Caleb has been through hell and back, and never once did he cry. But the ones who hurt him are crying like it’s their right. It’s repulsive.

She made a quick call. “Security, someone’s causing a scene at the emergency room entrance, second floor. Come and escort her off the premises right away.”

Moments later, a group of security guards showed up. When they saw who it was, they hesitated. After all, Yelena was no ordinary person. But their orders came from the Yardleys, and the Yardleys signed their…

“Ms. Quixall, please head back. We’d prefer not to make a scene. If you can leave on your own, we’d appreciate it.”

But Yelena just kept crying. She made no move to leave.

The lead security guard gave her a pained look. “Then we’ll have to escort you out.”

Still, she stayed put. This was her last chance—she knew that. After this, she’d never see Caleb again. She couldn’t just walk away.

Left with no choice, the security guards moved in. “Excuse us.”

Several strong men grabbed hold of her, dragging her out.
