Chapter 197: Eight Hundred Times Over

Caleb didn’t think much of it. “Mr. Doyle, believe it or not, it’s up to you. I don’t really care about your thoughts. Instead of spending time lecturing me, you might as well go home and properly educate your son. He was audacious enough to lay hands on someone else’s fiancée. From this, it’s clear that, as his father, you’ve failed in your duties as a parent.”

Terry was livid. Yet, due to his reservations toward several influential figures within the circle, he managed to suppress his anger. “Hmph. It’s not just George who can’t stand you. If you were my son, I swear I’d smack you around eight hundred times over in a day!” With that, he sat down angrily.

When he stood up, there was still a glimmer of hope in Raquel’s heart. However, upon seeing him lose to Caleb so quickly, she couldn’t help but feel a surge of resentment. This old geezer not only raised a foolish son, but he himself is also unbearably stupid. How on earth did this person become the head of the Doyle family? She disentangled herself from Jesse’s embrace, taking calculated steps toward Caleb.

Caleb had initially thought she was about to unleash a tirade of insults at him. However, to his surprise, just as she was only a few steps away, she suddenly fell to her knees with a thud. “Cale, I was in the wrong back then. I shouldn’t have chosen Jesse over you. But who can truly define something as complex as feelings? It wasn’t until I met him that I realized just how naive my understanding of love was. He was the only one who could make me feel the warmth of home. Later on, when you were imprisoned, we couldn’t manage to rescue you, so you ended up holding a grudge against us. But the crime you committed back then was too severe, Cale. We really couldn’t protect you!”

Her heartfelt plea, laced with tears, touched many present. They all felt that Raquel was in a difficult situation and that Caleb’s actions were driven by resentment.

Guests who were unaware of the truth began to point fingers at Caleb. “How could this young man behave like this? She’s found her happiness, yet he continues to pester her relentlessly. If he carries on this way, nobody will ever grow to like him.” “The letter he’s holding is probably a fabrication of his. Who can prove that the handwriting on it is Ms. Levinson’s?” “He even managed to drag the son of the Doyle family into this. Just how many people is he planning to offend today?”

A few days prior, the video had been jointly suppressed by the Doyle, Levinson, and Quixall families. Everyone tacitly avoided discussing the matter, as if nothing had happened at all. Scandals within the elite circles weren’t limited to just this one. If they were to fuss over every single incident, they would certainly invite a heap of trouble.

With a cold gaze, Caleb watched as Raquel spouted nonsense. Just because he had been accommodating her in the past didn’t mean he was a pushover. He laid the letter out in front of Raquel. “Take a good look at this letter! Can you dare to claim that the handwriting on it isn’t yours?”

Raquel assumed that Caleb only had one original manuscript in his possession, and that secretly destroying it would resolve everything. Unfortunately, what she never anticipated was that as soon as Caleb got the letter, he snapped a picture of it with his phone. Even if she managed to destroy all his backups, the scandal was bound to surface before the public. Upon seeing the familiar handwriting on it, Raquel was shocked to her core.

After Caleb’s car accident, she was afraid that others would discover this incident. So, she secretly slipped into his room and shredded the letter into tiny pieces. After that, he didn’t return to retrieve the letter, nor did he make the matter public. She assumed that the issue had been put to rest. Unexpectedly, Caleb was incredibly cunning, deliberately giving her a glimmer of hope, only to personally shatter it afterward.
