Chapter 198: Quiet Down
Resentment filled Raquel’s eyes. “Caleb, you’re so ruthless!”
Caleb uttered softly, “No matter how ruthless I may be, I could never surpass your ruthlessness.”
Gianna had pleaded with Raquel to donate blood for him. Not only had Raquel refused, but she had even managed to incapacitate one of Gianna’s hands. As vile as Raquel was, Caleb couldn’t stand to see her face for another second.
The expression on Raquel’s face was ever-changing. After a moment, she suddenly turned toward the guests behind her and lamented, “Dear guests who have come to attend the wedding, I implore you to stand up for me. Though the handwriting on that piece of paper is indeed mine, I didn’t write those words. When we were together, he would often mimic my handwriting, managing to make it look almost eighty percent similar to mine. Today, on the most significant day of my life, he shows up with a love letter he had fabricated himself, falsely claiming it was penned by me, intending to embarrass me!”
Raquel covered her face with her hands, sobbing. “I knew he despised me, but I never imagined the extent of his hatred. He’s succeeded. I’m now too ashamed to face anyone.”
Half the guests were moved by her, and they began to point and criticize Caleb.
“Ha! What did I say? The letter must have been fabricated by him, right? How could Ms. Levinson ever pen such a vulgar letter? It’s completely out of character for her.”
“Hurry up and send this brat away. If he doesn’t leave, this wedding simply can’t take place.”
The crowd was in an uproar, and countless malicious words were directed straight at Caleb as if he were the primary culprit behind everything.
Amid the chaos, Chelsea’s voice was particularly conspicuous. “Quiet down!” Her voice was gentle yet powerful. Two simple words from Chelsea were all it took to immediately stabilize the scene.
“He isn’t lying. Let him finish what he was saying.”
Chelsea’s repeated favoring of Caleb inevitably caused dissatisfaction among the crowd. They believed that Chelsea had been completely smitten by Caleb, which was why she kept speaking up for him throughout the wedding. However, due to the high standing of the Yardley family, they simply didn’t dare to voice their concerns.
Caleb cast a grateful gaze toward Chelsea, to which Chelsea responded with a gentle smile. With a faint smile, Caleb continued to look down at the stage.
“Raquel, you claim the handwriting on this paper is my imitation. Then, do you also believe the words Joseph spoke in the video were coerced by me?”
A flicker of unease passed through Raquel’s heart. “I—Isn’t that the case? You’re so malicious. Who knows…”
Her gaze darted through the crowd, searching for Joseph’s figure, hoping he would step forward and speak up for her. Joseph was deeply hurt by her words earlier. He merely downed one cup of beer after another, not even bothering to glance in her direction. Raquel was in a state of urgency. The incident that happened that day was ultimately Joseph’s fault. Had he not insisted on delivering the love letters she once wrote to him to the Quixall residence, Caleb wouldn’t have gotten any leverage over her.
Raquel thought, “Well, this is just great. If I can’t clarify matters regarding the letter, not only will I be unable to marry Jesse, but I’ll also face relentless retaliation from the Quixall family. Given the current state of the Levinson family, we absolutely can’t withstand such a severe blow.” Raquel certainly didn’t want to be forced onto the streets before she even had the chance to become the lady of a prestigious family.
Upon hearing his ex-fiancée’s words, Caleb suddenly found it somewhat amusing. “He’s a grown man. If I had intimidated him, wouldn’t he have sought help from his father? Or are you suggesting that his intelligence is that of a three-year-old, so he’s incapable of even asking someone for help?”
