Chapter 225: Go Ahead

Jesse’s pitiful voice came through the door. “Caleb, I came to see you! You haven’t been home in so long. We all miss you. Come back with me, okay?”

Caleb didn’t hesitate to reject. “No.” To him, the Quixall family was nothing but a bottomless pit of hell. After clawing his way out, why would he ever willingly throw himself back in?

Jesse definitely hadn’t come just to visit. This guy always had some scheme up his sleeve, and this time was no different.

Seeing Caleb’s immediate rejection, Jesse sounded even more wounded. “Caleb, I haven’t done anything! Do you really hate me that much?”

Caleb stayed silent. Without knowing Jesse’s true intentions, he knew keeping quiet was the best move. Seeing him fall silent, Jesse also lapsed into silence.

Caleb thought that once Jesse had waited long enough, he would leave. Unexpectedly, Jesse began crouching down and picking the lock. A vein throbbed in Caleb’s temple. “Jesse, you—”

Who would believe that a young man from a wealthy family would actually pick locks? Yet here was the proof, right in front of him. With a twist of a wire, Jesse grinned. “Done! Now you can’t keep me out, Caleb.”

Following that, he opened the door and sauntered in with an air of confidence. As he walked, he wrinkled his nose in disdain. “Caleb, this place is a dump. Can’t even move without tripping over something.”

Caleb’s voice was icy. “I never invited you in. Leave now, or I’ll report you for breaking and entering.”

Jesse just plopped down on the couch, completely unfazed. “Go ahead and tell them. Who do you think they’ll believe, me or you?”

Caleb had no comeback. The moment Jesse stepped inside, the mask had slipped, a stark contrast to his demeanor outside.

If Caleb recorded this and posted it online, Jesse’s adoring fans would lose their minds. Contrary to their expectations, Jesse was neither gentle nor considerate. He was nothing more than a crude country bumpkin.

A little pressure, and the real Jesse came spilling out. Jesse smirked. “So, Caleb, you’ve been having a great time lately, huh? So many people wishing you a long, happy life.”

Caleb glared. “And whose doing is that? The way that story blew up. You were behind it, weren’t you?”

Jesse shrugged, neither confirming nor denying. “You’ve already been abandoned by the Quixall family. What’s one more scandal at this point?”

“I would advise you,” he said, “it’s best to sort things out sooner rather than later. This way, you can at least preserve a shred of your dignity. Honestly, you should just do yourself a favor and end it. At least that way, you’d save some dignity.”

Caleb replied calmly, “You’re the one who should be worried. The Xiques family’s already knocking on your door. Keep playing these games, and you’ll be the one suffering the consequences.”

Jesse’s face darkened instantly. “You know about that?” His expression shifted wildly as his mind raced. Who could’ve told Caleb?

After a few seconds of thought, he finally understood. “Oh, I get it. The daughter of the Yardley family, Chelsea Yardley. She’s the one who told you, isn’t she? That woman needs to learn to mind her own business. If the Yardley family wasn’t protecting her, I’d have dealt with her already!”

Caleb looked at him with something close to pity. “Caleb, you’re pathetic. The Quixall family spoiled you rotten, and now you’ve lost yourself in it. Sooner or later, reality’s going to crush you.”
