Chapter 238: I Will Make Sure He Pays
After wrapping up his tasks, Caleb was about to unwind with his phone when a sudden knocking echoed through the room. Who was it this time? With measured patience, he made his way to the door and opened it.
The person standing outside was none other than Finneas. He was still dressed in that black outfit, his gaze as icy as the first time they met.
“Madam Yardley asked for you to come over. She has something to discuss with you.”
After a long and arduous journey, they at last reached their destination. Once Caleb was dropped off, Finneas sped away, seemingly with a mission to attend to.
Caleb entered the gates of the Yardley residence alone. As soon as the people inside saw him, they cleared a path—clearly, Miriam had given instructions beforehand. After a moment of hesitation, Caleb entered the living room. He immediately noticed the overweight woman sitting at the front.
A sly smirk played at the corner of Miriam’s lips. “Do you have any idea why I summoned you here?”
“I don’t,” Caleb replied honestly.
Miriam pointed at the woman tied up in the center. “Her circumstances are quite similar to yours, so tell me, how would you handle this situation?”
Caleb cast his gaze toward the woman. Traces of blood streaked across her face. Her clothes were tattered, revealing skin stained with blood. The sight was genuinely distressing. The most captivating feature was undoubtedly her pair of eyes. Once upon a time, they were filled with disdain, but now, all that remained was endless fear. It was Casey, who had previously hurled eggs at him in the hospital and boldly declared her intent to avenge Jesse. The tables had indeed turned. Now, she was the one being exposed and attacked online, powerless to retaliate, left at the mercy of others. He wondered if she harbored even a sliver of regret.
“Madam Yardley, what happened to her?” Caleb asked, glancing down.
“Her? Her boyfriend couldn’t repay his debt, so he sold her off as compensation,” Miriam replied coolly. “But what use are people to me? It’s money I want! That fool thought he could toss his girlfriend my way… he pays for that mistake!” Her voice carried a trace of menace that frightened Casey even more. She was encircled by fierce-looking thugs. The only rational presence in the room was someone she had wronged in the past. Will he help me? I doubt so… If it were me, I wouldn’t risk my life to save someone who had once mistreated me. I guess I’m going to die here…
Casey closed her eyes, almost resigning to her fate. Caleb cast her a glance. There’s no way she’ll meet a quick end!
“Madam Yardley, perhaps it would be wise to start with ten lashes of the whip. She’s been defiant, after all. It’s essential to ensure she understands her position before moving forward!”
Casey’s eyes suddenly widened. He truly hates me, huh? I’m just a girl! I won’t be able to withstand even five lashes, let alone ten!
Upon seeing her panicked expression, Miriam was delighted. “All right, let’s do it your way then! Just make sure to be a little merciless. That’s what keeps things exciting!”
“Understood.”
Someone handed Caleb a whip. Caleb reached out to take it. Once the ropes around Casey had been undone, and she was pushed to the ground, he gathered all his strength and swung the whip.
Thwack! A sound pierced through the air. All Casey felt was a sharp pain in her body, causing her to cry out involuntarily.
“Argh!” Her cries were heartbreakingly agonizing, echoing the sorrowful wail of a creature in its final moments.
