Revenge Forged in Prison

Chapter 240: Easy Target

Miriam’s heart was bursting with joy.

“All right, all right, then stay home tomorrow. I’ll make time to be with you.”

“Okay, thanks, Mom!”

Chelsea pressed a quick kiss to Miriam’s cheek, leaving behind a bold imprint of her lipstick. Momentarily startled, Miriam instinctively wiped it away with her fingers.

“Jeez…”

She felt a hint of irritation, but her affection for her daughter remained the dominant emotion. She chatted with Chelsea for a bit before she finally broached the main subject.

“There’s someone new here today, and Caleb expressed interest in taking her away. But I’m not entirely comfortable with that. I’d feel much better if she were under your care.” Gesturing toward Casey, she added, “That’s her. If you think she’s unkempt, I can have her cleaned up, and she can serve as your servant.”

When Chelsea walked in earlier, she had immediately spotted Casey sprawled on the ground. She recognized her at once. She was the same woman who had once thrown eggs at Caleb in the hospital. Afterward, she had spread lies online, stirring up netizens to launch another wave of cyberattacks against him. Now, seeing her in such a wretched state, Chelsea thought it was no one’s fault but her own. Blaming others was pointless.

“Mom, she’s covered in so much blood. It’s really scary. I can’t even look.”

Chelsea covered her eyes and sought comfort behind Miriam. Miriam’s expression darkened as she turned to Perry. “Why hasn’t all the blood been cleaned off her yet? Can’t you see it? Are you just here to freeload?”

Perry didn’t dare talk back. He gestured for a few maids to come over, and together, they meticulously cleaned up the blood around Casey. However, the stains on her clothes proved beyond their efforts.

Irritated, Miriam snapped, “Take her downstairs, get her into clean clothes, and make sure she takes a bath!”

“Understood!”

A bodyguard, without any hint of mercy, hoisted Casey onto his shoulder and strode out of the living room. Miriam gently patted Chelsea’s hand. “She’s gone now. You’re not frightened anymore, are you?”

“Not at all!”

“Sweetheart, do you still want her around? If you’re not interested in her, I’ll just find a place and bury her. She’s just a university student, incapable of doing much. Keeping her around is just a waste of space.”

After a moment of contemplation, Chelsea responded, “Let her stay. I’ve been in a bad mood these past few days, and it wouldn’t hurt to have someone to vent on. She seems like an easy target, and I’m sure it’ll be fun to tease her.”

Miriam chuckled indulgently. “All right, we’ll do it your way. If she alone isn’t enough, I can arrange for a few more people to come over. People like her are a dime a dozen, born to serve the Yardley family. Being noticed by us is a privilege for them.”

A chill ran down Chelsea’s spine, yet her face revealed nothing.

“You’re right! These lowlifes should have been long gone. Their mere existence is nothing but a drain on resources.”

Miriam was greatly pleased. “You’ve been with me for so many years, and you’ve truly grown. That woman should be finished with her bath by now. Go check on her.”

Chelsea turned to leave, her steps light and graceful. Once she was out of sight, Perry approached Miriam cautiously. “Mdm. Yardley, Ms. Yardley isn’t your biological daughter. While she hasn’t shown any signs of ill intent over the years, if she were to suddenly turn against you—”

Before he could even finish his sentence, Miriam glared at him.

“Say one more word, and I’ll cut off your tongue!”
