Chapter 244: A Good Time
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Ignoring the knocks, Caleb continued to sleep, cradling the kitten in his arms.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
The knock on the door this time was noticeably louder than before.
Caleb was overwhelmed with annoyance, so he had no choice but to get up and open the door. “What’s the matter?”
“Caleb, the toilet is clogged. Please fix it.”
With an air of entitlement on his face, Jesse seemed to think it was perfectly justified for him to order Caleb to fix the toilet.
In an irritated tone, Caleb asked, “Did you clog the toilet?”
Caleb had been there for a while, and he had never once clogged the toilet. Why is it that whenever these people show up, something gets blocked? Now that they’ve clogged his toilet, they should fix it! Since they can’t fix it, they should find a repairman! Why are they bothering him instead? This is absurd!
Jesse shook his head. “It wasn’t me. Mom did it.”
He then urged, “Mom didn’t do it on purpose, Caleb. Don’t blame her, okay?”
Before Caleb could respond, Yelena, upon hearing the last sentence, roared, “Mom raised you for twenty years, so what’s so wrong about asking you to fix a toilet? If you’re so unwilling, then move out! Leave the apartment to us. I’ll handle the rent.”
Caleb was fed up. “Didn’t you all think this apartment wasn’t up to par? Why do you want to pay the rent now?”
Yelena shot him a glare. “If I want to pay, what’s it to you?”
Caleb didn’t want to say anything anymore. After all, no matter what was said, he was at fault.
He made his way to the corner of the bathroom, picked up the plunger, and quickly jabbed it into the toilet a few times. In less than two minutes, the water had drained away.
Jesse exclaimed, “Caleb, you’re so impressive! You can even handle things like this!”
Yelena, however, uttered in disgust, “What’s there to be proud of? It’s filthy. Who knows how often he’s done this for others before? I wonder if he even washed his hands afterward.”
Recalling the numerous times she had shared a meal with Caleb after his release from prison, she couldn’t help but feel a wave of nausea.
“Ugh!”
In a reflexive response, Yelena retched slightly, feeling unbearably miserable at that moment.
Caleb’s face darkened. He picked up the toilet plunger and headed toward Yelena.
Yelena was seized by fear. Too shocked to utter a word, she started darting around the room in panic. However, she was a prominent young lady, so she couldn’t possibly be a match for Caleb.
In less than ten seconds, she found herself pinned to the ground by Caleb, her body soaked with water that had seeped out from the plunger.
“Ah!”
A piercing scream of unparalleled despair echoed throughout the building.
Yelena felt so nauseous that tears welled up in her eyes. She wanted to berate Caleb, but every time she opened her mouth, the urge to vomit was so overwhelming that she gave up on the idea of scolding him.
Suddenly, there was a vigorous knocking at the door.
Jesse went to answer the door, only to find an old man standing outside.
The old man complained, “What on earth is your family up to? Why are you being so loud?”
With a slight smirk, Jesse was about to showcase his acting skills worthy of an award-winning actor.
However, the old man spoke up first, saying, “You young folks sure know how to have a good time. I used to have my fun like this when I was your age, but it can really take a toll on your health! However, you guys really need to keep it down. There’s a middle school kid studying downstairs. It wouldn’t be fair to disturb her!”
The door then thudded shut.
Surprised, Jesse turned his head. Once he saw the scene behind him, he understood everything.
Caleb held a plunger with an expressionless face. Yelena was sprawled on the ground, soaked from head to toe. Meanwhile, Deborah was kneeling beside her, reaching out to her daughter as if they were both anticipating the forthcoming torment together.
Jesse looked up at the ceiling, feeling as if his world had come crashing down.
