Chapter 254: Everyone Is Out To Get Him

After recounting how she became acquainted with Chelsea Caleb, Seiren quickly added, “Ms. Yardley is truly a kind-hearted person. Even toward someone like me, who comes from a poor family, she never showed any impatience. Instead, she always treated me with kindness. She even found me a job to help support my family.”

Caleb agreed, saying, “You’re right. Without her help, I wouldn’t even have a place to live right now.” Not only that, but he would also be saddled with a mountain of debt. He would be relentlessly pursued by creditors from all walks of life, using every trick in the book to reclaim their debts. Under the intense pressure and stress, he would succumb to despair and take his own life.

Seiren smiled. “Mr. Caleb, you seem much livelier since leaving the Quixall family, don’t you?” She paused for a moment, then suddenly slapped her forehead. “Ah! With all this chatter, I completely forgot about the main issue at hand. Ms. Yardley instructed me to show you to your designated room. I can’t believe I forgot.” She stuck out her tongue playfully before leading Caleb to the room at the far left on the third floor.

“Mr. Caleb, this is your room. Look, it’s filled with sunlight, nothing like the one at the Quixall residence.” The room was devoid of excessive decoration, yet the single beam of sunlight that streamed in outshone everything else. After a day of endless hassle, Caleb was utterly exhausted. “Please convey my thanks to Ms. Yardley for me. I’m tired, so I’ll be heading to bed now.”

Seiren was just about to tell Caleb to wake up later for dinner when she noticed his eyes were tightly shut. It seemed he had been tired for quite some time. She gave a bitter smile and shook her head. “He must have been through something rough again. I’ll let him rest for a while.”

Casey ascended from downstairs, coincidentally bumping into Seiren. She pressed her lips together, intending to bypass Seiren and head upstairs. However, Seiren stubbornly stood in her way, refusing to let anyone pass. In the end, war still inevitably broke out. Casey furrowed her brow. “Ms. Salter, what is the meaning of this?”

Before she went to see Caleb, she had met with Seiren and had also toured this mansion, so they knew each other.

Now that Mr. Caleb has returned, it’s my duty to be here and keep an eye on those with ill intentions toward him, to prevent him from getting hurt again.”

Casey snapped, “Are you out of your mind? Do you really think everyone’s out to get him? If that’s the case, why let him move in? Aren’t you afraid that Ms. Yardley might harm him?”

Surprisingly, Seiren actually nodded in earnest. “That’s correct. Everyone, with the exception of Ms. Yardley and a few others, has doubtful intentions about Mr. Caleb. Before, I was unable to prevent it. Now that I have this chance, I will surely make up for it. I want him to experience what it’s like to have someone care for him.”

With a muttered curse under her breath, Casey had no choice but to turn around and descend the stairs.

Really! I can’t believe she actually admitted it all with such an air of nonchalance! Caleb wasn’t exactly an important figure with any significant background, so why would anyone bother about him? Moreover, this wasn’t even his home. Seiren kept referring to him as “Mr. Caleb” with such fervor. Wasn’t she afraid of angering Chelsea?

After climbing a flight of stairs, she was left with a belly full of anger. Casey applied ointment to her wounds as she looked in the mirror, then proceeded to scroll through posts on her phone. Upon opening her social media, she discovered that the comments tagging her had exceeded 99+.
