“As for the core game technology that was lost, I’ll also help you look into it.”

For a moment, Zachary was stunned. When he finally came to his senses, his eyes widened in disbelief.
“Y–You’re obviously already aware of my current situation, Ms. Brown. Why would you continue to invest in me?” he asked.
She smiled at him. “I’m a person who believes in my ability to judge people. Furthermore, investing is inherently a risky business. If I can’t even bear this little bit of risk, how can I hope to score in the future?”
Zachary stared blankly, turning her words over in his mind.
Not long after, his expression changed. “Thank you for your trust and support, Ms. Brown. Since you’ve once again chosen to invest in me and my team, I definitely won’t let you down.”
I nodded. However, I then recalled his future situation. He would accidentally discover that the person who had stolen the core game technology was one of his friends who had jumped ship. Subsequently, he would stir up a big fuss, leading to ten days in the police station. During this time, his mother would trip and fall, be hospitalized for a cerebral hemorrhage, and pass away that night. As a result, Zachary would fall into a slump for almost two years, before reviving his career by pure chance.
Although I insisted on investing in him in this life, would the same events repeat themselves?
I made my way home with mixed feelings. Along the way, I ordered an investigation into the members of Zachary’s team who had left for another company. As long as I found the actual culprit who stole the technology, my promise to Zachary would be fulfilled.
As I arrived at my house, I caught a glimpse of a figure leaning against the wall outside. Upon closer inspection, it was Eric, whom I hadn’t seen in a few days. He had a hand casually tucked into his pocket, the slender fingers of his other hand hooked around an exquisite bag. He had his head lowered; I had no idea what he was thinking.
Smiling, I walked over to him.
“I haven’t seen you for a few days,” I said casually. “Why are you suddenly free enough to look for me today?”
Eric raised his head, handing me the bag.
“This is for you,” he said simply.
I glanced at him in surprise. After taking the bag, I realized it contained an equally exquisite box with an invitation on one side.
“A business exchange meeting?” I read aloud questioningly.
Eric nodded. “Flint Group is hosting this exchange meeting. There’ll be quite a few business veterans in attendance. Since you’ve decided to start your own business, you should build up some connections. How about you attend it with me?”
I glanced at the invitation again. I would definitely gain a decent amount of investment if I attended.
“Thank you! I’ll definitely attend!” I replied enthusiastically.
Eric’s lips curved into a faint smile. After a few seconds of silence, he suddenly pointed at the box.
“Aren’t you going to open it?” he asked.
I was originally planning to open it at home, but under his watchful gaze, I opened it in front of him. The first thing I saw was a lot of white.
“An evening gown?” I asked. “I remember this particular gown is a collector’s item. There’s only one such gown in the world, and I’m pretty sure it was already reserved. How… Don’t tell me you were the one who reserved it?”

Eric neither confirmed nor denied it. “I was planning to give it to you earlier, but there was no good timing. Since you’ll be going to the exchange meeting, it’s the perfect time for you to wear it.”
I was surprised by his thoughtfulness. For a moment, I simply stared blankly at the evening gown.
Eric was so nice to me that I didn’t know how to respond.
Was I forever going to be in his debt?
I pursed my lips, storing the evening gown back in its box. I found that I couldn’t meet his gaze.
“I’ll be heading home first,” I said at last. “See you on the day of the exchange meeting.”
I practically bolted into the villa. Just before the door closed completely, I seemed to glimpse a smile on Eric’s lips.
