Chapter 85: He's the One Who Stole the Technology

“I don’t need to abuse any sort of authority at all,” said Eric coolly. “I’m the authority here.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, several security guards rushed to apprehend Elsa and Jeremiah.

“Jane! You can’t do this to us!” yelled Elsa. “How can you drive your own sister out so ruthlessly now that you have Mr. Flint wrapped around your finger?”

She no longer cared about her image in the eyes of the onlookers now that the situation was not in her and Jeremiah’s favor.

Jeremiah looked darkly at me as well. “Elsa is right. At the end of the day, we’re still your family, so how could you just watch idly while we’re being chased out?”

I sighed lightly and looked at them as if I was looking at two idiots. “One of you is my ex-husband while the other is my adopted sister. Neither of you really count as my family by blood. Furthermore, the two of you got together behind my back, so you should be grateful for the slightest mercies I show you—even if all I do is pay respects at your graves after your passing!”

Both Elsa and Jeremiah were stunned. Before they could react, the security guards quickly covered their mouths and dragged them out of the venue.

My ears were finally spared from their irritating voices. I went to the bathroom, and when I returned, I saw Eric speaking to an elderly company owner. Standing next to the man was a slightly awkward-looking middle-aged man.

I frowned. Just as I was about to approach them, I suddenly received a call.

“We’ve already looked into the matter you asked us to investigate, Ms. Brown,” said the person on the other end. “I’ve sent the list of people who left Mr. Sinclair’s team to your phone. Please have a look when you’re able to!”

I checked my phone. As I tapped on the list, a photo caught my eye. The appearance of the man in the photo gradually overlapped with that of the middle-aged man in front of me. So, the one who had stolen the core game technology of Zachary’s game was him.

The middle-aged man’s name was Jared Ladley, and he had been friends with Zachary for many years. Back then, he was also the one who established the development team alongside Zachary, but now, he had chosen to betray his friend for the sake of his own future.

I put my phone away and walked toward the group.

All of a sudden, a figure rushed in front of me and punched Jared, causing him to fall to the floor.

“I treated you so well, yet you actually chose to betray me! We’ve known each other for so many years! Don’t tell me all the time we’ve known each other was nothing in the face of your so-called benefits?”

I wasn’t the only one who had been shocked by Zachary’s sudden appearance—everyone else was as well. Seeing the security guards step forward to stop him, I hurried over without regard for anything else.

“Sorry, but this man is my friend,” I said quickly.

Eric glanced at me, then signaled for the security guards to back off.

By this point, Jared had already been beaten black and blue. I hurriedly pulled Zachary off him.

“I know you’re fuming, Mr. Sinclair, but this is an exchange meeting hosted by Flint Group,” I said reasonably. “If you continue to cause a scene, it’ll only be detrimental to you. Let’s discuss things instead of getting physical, alright? Don’t worry, I’ll definitely help you.”

Zachary turned around at the sound of my voice. He looked shocked to see me.

“I didn’t expect to see you here, Ms. Brown,” he said. He quickly came to his senses and immediately pointed at Jared, shouting, “It’s him! He’s the one who stole my game technology! As long as we get him to hand over the technology, we won’t have to restart our research and development from scratch! That way, our team will also be able to save some time and effort!”

Just then, Jared got up from the floor, looking completely disheveled.

“Don’t spout nonsense, Zachary Sinclair,” he spat out. “What evidence do you have to prove that I stole your core game technology? You can’t just slander me as you like just because you’re jealous that I’ve joined a better company!” Zachary’s eyes widened. He clearly didn’t expect his former friend to utter such heartless words.
