No one dared to move. Dexter smiled and said understandingly, "Aren't you going to do it? It doesn't matter. I'll arrange for someone to do it for you."
As Dexter finished, a bodyguard stepped forward, ready to pick up the machete.
"Oh no!" John suddenly rushed forward and grabbed the machete.
Someone shouted, "John, you old bastard! How dare you hurt my son? I'll kill you!"
The man roared angrily, lunging at John and punching him. John stumbled back two steps from the impact, then swung the machete at the man in a fit of anger.
"I just followed the rules of the game," John snarled, glaring madly at the man. "You were slower. You can't blame me for your incompetence!"
The man glared at John with hatred.
The game began. Members of the red and blue teams started playing soccer seriously.
With a faint smile, Dexter watched, offering Evangeline snacks. He slid a small plate toward her, asking, "Do you think I'm being too cruel abducting their innocent relatives?"
Evangeline shook her head. "They aren't innocent. They profited from others' suffering; they shouldn't be considered innocent. The truly innocent are those hurt by their families. Those people benefited from the crimes. Even if they didn't know their loved ones' deeds, they enjoyed the spoils. They are guilty. Besides, some likely knew the money's origin. When they followed their families to the brokerage bank and signed the contracts, they should have known what was happening. I'm not a saint; I can't sympathize with those who reap the benefits of sin."
Dexter smiled. "I'm relieved you think so. None of those tied up are innocent. I ordered everyone involved to be caught, and all brought here committed unforgivable crimes. Besides, they signed the agreements. They deserve this. I will try to be as kind as you."
Evangeline didn't reply.
Suddenly, the white tiger howled beside them, its claws digging furiously at the ground, already creating a hole.
Evangeline looked at the tiger and asked, "Do you want to go down there and play with them?"
The tiger's eyes lit up. It stood, walked to Evangeline, and rubbed its head against her. It had grown up in the arena and loved such scenes; the sight below had excited it.
Evangeline touched its head gently. "Go have fun. But don't hurt anyone or eat anything. Remember? If you dare eat anything, I'll rip your head off and kick it to them as a soccer ball."
The tiger shivered and whimpered, rubbing against her. Evangeline chuckled. "Go ahead."
The tiger bounded onto the pitch. The players trembled, fleeing in terror and abandoning the ball. Some were so terrified they soiled themselves.
As they tried to flee the stadium, Chad said chillingly, "Leaving the field means forfeiting your life, just as not focusing on the game does." Those who had reached the edge, terrified, turned back to play—or rather, to avoid the tiger.
At 5:00 p.m., Dexter announced the match suspended due to the late hour. The rich men and their families breathed sighs of relief. The tiger's ferocity had injured nearly half the players; its white fur was stained red. Disgusted, Evangeline ordered someone to bathe it.
The game was over, but Dexter didn't release the rich people. "Neither team scored, so you both lost. I'll announce your punishment tomorrow. It's almost dinnertime. You can cook; go ahead."
Bodyguards carried in tables and cooking utensils, but no ingredients.
Dexter sneered. "Sorry, there's a food shortage. You'll have to provide your own ingredients. You can cooperate with your families."
