A familiar figure slowly emerged from the forest.
"Ah! Evangeline's here! The ghost is here! Help me, Sam!" Meghan cried, throwing herself into Samson's arms and trembling violently. She buried her face in his chest, peeking at Evangeline while pretending not to.
Samson's face paled. His body tensed, trembling slightly. "Evangeline, is that you? Are you a human or a ghost?" he asked, his voice trembling.
Even if Evangeline had survived the fall from the cliff, she couldn't be unscathed. Yet, there was no blood. This was impossible. Therefore, she must be a ghost.
"What do you think?" Evangeline asked with a half-smile, her flashlight illuminating her face from below. Her smile, revealing white teeth, only added to her terrifying appearance.
Meghan knelt before Evangeline, weeping and begging, "Evangeline, please spare me! I didn't mean to push you. Forgive me for our family's sake! I swear to make offerings when I return, ensuring your peace in the afterlife. I'll be filial to our parents and brothers on your behalf. Please spare me!"
Her apologies proving useless, Meghan shifted the blame: "I didn't mean it! I only wanted to pat your back, but you lost your balance. This isn't my fault! You can't take revenge, or you won't go to heaven. You were also at fault—dangling your feet over the cliff's edge. Even without me, you would have fallen. Your death was your fate, not my fault!"
Samson added, his voice trembling, "Evangeline, if you're dead, go to heaven. Don't commit murder; you'll become an evil spirit and be punished in hell. If you're unhappy, I'll have scriptures read for you and accumulate merit for your next life."
Evangeline remained silent, a half-smile and mocking expression on her face.
Samson gritted his teeth. "It was an accident. Meghan didn't mean to hurt you; don't hurt her."
The live audience was shocked. Meghan and Samson's "confession" confirmed their suspicions: Meghan had attempted to kill Evangeline.
A viewer typed: "[Holy crap, I thought Meghan was just pretentious! I didn't expect her to be so vicious!]"
Another wrote: "[She pushed Evangeline off the cliff? That's cruel. How could she…]"
[That's right. Although I often fantasize about the death of the person I hate, if it comes to actually killing someone, few people dared to do it. Meghan is too heartless!]
[I'm so annoyed. How dare she? First, she stole Evangeline's identity as the Gallagher family's daughter and enjoyed the life that should've been Evangeline's. Now, she even attempted to kill Evangeline! How could such a vicious woman exist in the world?]
[Is there anyone who studied law in the live room! Can Meghan be sentenced to death for this!]
(It's difficult to sentence her to death, or even severely punish her. The camera didn't film the crime, and her confession might not be admissible. Evangeline is unharmed, making a harsh punishment difficult. If she recanted, claiming fear forced her confession, and no one else testified, she'd walk free. At best, she might receive three years.)
[This is so infuriating! Such an evil woman is a walking trouble!]
[Instead of Meghan pushing Evangeline off the cliff, I'm more shocked that Samson connived at Meghan and even pleaded for her. Evangeline is his real sister!]
10:28 AM
[I was also shocked by Samson's reaction. He knew Meghan pushed Evangeline, but he defended her. How could he do that?]
[Maybe Samson helped push Evangeline off the cliff.]
[I feel sorry for Evangeline. She saved a back-stabbing ingrate.]
[Samson is inhumane!]
[Damn this scum and bitch! They should die. I feel disgusted from seeing them!]
Meghan continued to beg for mercy, "Evangeline, please forgive me! I only wanted to say hello, but I used too much force. I was wrong. Don't kill me! My death won't help you!"
Evangeline suddenly stopped, frowning. She retreated, pinching her nose. "What's that terrible smell?" she asked disdainfully.
Meghan and Samson froze. Samson smelled a foul stench and retched. Meghan smelled it too, realizing her pants were soiled. Terrified and humiliated, her face flushed. She bit her lip, crying from shame.
Jolene ran to Evangeline, overjoyed. "Evangeline, you're back! Where have you been?"
Evangeline, holding her flashlight, asked, "They call me a ghost. Aren't you afraid?"
Jolene pointed to Evangeline's shadow. "Evangeline! You have a shadow! Ghosts don't have shadows!"
Evangeline smiled, shining her flashlight elsewhere. "You're smarter than them."
"Thank you," Jolene smiled.
Evangeline tossed Jolene two hares and her dagger. "Clean them; no dinner if you lose them."
Jolene caught them. "Can I call Travis and Kendrick?"
Evangeline nodded. Jolene excitedly shared the hares with Travis and Kendrick.
Samson and Meghan were dumbfounded. Evangeline wasn't a ghost?
Samson asked, "Evangeline, you're alive? How did you survive?" A hint of joy shone in his eyes. Despite the shock, he was relieved. He felt guilty for his earlier complicity.
Meghan screamed, "How is that possible? We heard you hit the bottom! You must be a ghost!"
Evangeline mocked, "I know you want me dead. It's not my time."
Meghan shook her head, resentment and hatred in her eyes. "It's impossible! You should be dead!"
Evangeline refused to argue with her. "You didn't kill me, but you can be convicted of attempted murder. Just wait."
Evangeline glanced between Meghan's legs, sneering. "Before that, clean up your mess. It stinks like a biochemical weapon." She pinched her nose and walked upstream to wash.
"Ah! You'll die a miserable death! Why did you scare me?" Meghan screamed.
Samson stepped away, struggling to avoid the stench, preserving Meghan's dignity. "Meghan, stop. Clean yourself and change."
Meghan, red-eyed, asked angrily, "Sam, why are you so far away? Do you find me repulsive?"
Samson hesitated, then shook his head. He walked to her, pulling her up. The soiled underpants couldn't contain the mess; filth, mixed with blood, spilled on the ground. Meghan screamed, stomped her foot, and shoved Samson away, spilling more.
Samson, nauseous, said, "I'll get your clothes. Wash up at the river."
Meghan, enduring the humiliation, ran to the river and jumped in.
Jolene and the others, preparing the hares, stopped when they saw Meghan.
Kendrick said, "Let's gather wood and prepare the hares upstream."
They bypassed Meghan's mess and walked upstream, out of sight.
A viewer wrote: "[Look, this is so funny. Meghan was scared to shit herself!]"
[She must've felt guilty!]
[Samson has true love for Meghan. When others don't dare to get close to Meghan, he stays with her. Let's bind them together!]
[Meghan the bitch deserves it! This is just a small punishment for trying to harm Evangeline. Evangeline, don't spare her after the show is over!]
Upstream, Evangeline joined Jolene and others after showering. Jolene explained; Evangeline nodded, instructing them to prepare the hares, ignoring the two downstream.
Afterward, Jolene and the others performed for Evangeline.
Meghan and Samson listened to the happy sounds, their feelings mixed. Meghan was especially angry and scared.
She leaned into Samson's arms, crying. "Sam, what if Evangeline sues me? Don't be her witness. Say it's a false accusation. Only we three were there. If we deny it, she's framing me!"
Samson frowned. Meghan wrapped her arms around his neck, forcing him to look at her. "Sam, I don't want to go to jail! You saved my life. You won't let me go to jail, right?"
Samson said, "Don't cry. I won't let them hurt you. You saved my life; I'll help you unconditionally. You did nothing wrong."
Meghan smiled, leaning on his chest. "Thank you, Sam. I love you."
A viewer wrote: "[So pushing people off a cliff equals doing nothing wrong. Mr. Gallagher's view of right and wrong is breathtaking.]"
Another viewer typed: "[How disgusting! You two jerks without moral values!]
[We must send Meghan the bitch to jail!].
[Samson should also be convicted as an accomplice!]
On the seventh day, Evangeline saw a cruise ship in the distance—the one that had brought them there. The production team had sent a boat to pick them up.
