Evangeline initially looked away. Hearing Jasper's words, she looked at him and said indifferently, "If trash like you can be here, why can't I?"
Jasper's face flushed with anger. "You—"
Steven's face darkened. "Jasper, if you want to make a scene, I'll have someone ask you to leave."
Jasper retorted, "She's the one making a scene! Why should I leave?"
Steven rolled his eyes. "You're out of your mind! You yelled at and insulted Evangeline first. Just because you're crazy doesn't mean I am. Get to the waiting area. You're an eyesore!"
Jasper's face contorted with rage. He sneered at Evangeline, "I didn't expect you to hook up with the youngest Rouse son and get him to humiliate me. You're only nineteen, and you've already learned such a dirty trick. How disgusting!"
"Damn you," Steven fumed, raising his hand to hit Jasper. Evangeline stopped him.
"Let him bark," she said faintly. "It won't last." She would avenge herself and needed no one's help.
Steven reluctantly lowered his hand.
Jasper said sarcastically, "Don't think this pleases me. I won't forgive you, no matter what. And don't claim to be my sister at the racetrack. If Queen Jade knows I have a shameful sister like you, and it affects her reputation, I won't let you off!" He believed Evangeline was trying to win his favor. He wouldn't be swayed by such a trifle. He would never forgive her for ruining the Gallagher family.
"Idiot," Evangeline scoffed.
Jasper glared at her and left.
"What an asshole!" Steven cursed.
Arthur frowned, confused. "There isn't a single sane person in the Gallagher family, and they all treat you badly. How could you stay for a year?"
Evangeline replied, "They weren't so bad before we fell out. And I longed for family affection then, so I endured it." But three months ago, they stepped over her injured body to check on a frightened Meghan. That extinguished the last glimmer of hope in her heart.
Arthur shook his head, feeling sorry for her. He glanced at Jasper's back with gloomy eyes, thinking of accelerating the Gallagher family's bankruptcy. Though Evangeline had given him a year, he couldn't wait that long. Seeing their treatment of her, he wished he could beat them to a pulp.
Time passed slowly. The race was about to begin. Jade was competing in the third race. However, no one had sought out Evangeline as the second race neared its end. The crowd searched for Jade, neglecting the race itself. They cared only about seeing her. Steven also kept looking around.
Just as the second race ended, Steven approached Evangeline and whispered, "Evangeline, tell me the truth. Are you fooling me? Is Queen Jade not coming?"
Evangeline blinked. "Do I look like a liar?"
Steven said helplessly, "But Queen Jade hasn't arrived…"
Evangeline reassured him, "She's here."
Steven was stunned. "Where? I can't find her." He looked around. "Queen Jade always wears a mask. Is she hiding in the crowd without it?"
Evangeline held his chin, turning his face toward her. "Stop looking. I am Jade."
Everyone was speechless.
Evangeline frowned. "What's with those faces? Don't you believe me?"
Steven sighed. "Evangeline, stop messing around. How can you be Queen Jade? She's completely different. Queen Jade is perfect, and you…" He thought Evangeline was joking.
Hugo added, "If you said you were Ewan, we might believe you. At least, there's an 'E' in your name. But Queen Jade? No connection at all."
Evangeline was speechless. "Ewan is a man! You'd rather believe I'm a man than Jade?" She thought Jade was female, at least.
Everyone shook their heads, refusing to believe her.
Steven said, "Queen Jade is like a deity. Even her hair is elegant. She wouldn't crawl on the ground in the dark, let alone swing on vines and grunt like a baboon!"
Evangeline was at a loss for words. She looked at Arthur, but he looked away. She whispered inwardly, "What the hell! Even Arthur doesn't believe me."
She shook her head. "Believe me or not, it's your choice. Steven, take me to the dressing room." The race was about to start; she needed to change.
Steven wanted to say more but was dragged away. The others followed.
In the dressing room, Evangeline changed into her racing suit. When she emerged, the group was stunned.
"You look a little like Queen Jade," Steven said.
"Gosh! You're not really Queen Jade, are you?" Hugo asked, trembling.
"How is that possible?" Finnegan was shocked.
Arthur stared at Evangeline before placing her helmet on her head. "That's more like it. It has to be her," he said seriously.
Silence fell, then excitement erupted. They were thrilled that Jade was their friend. The contrast between their image of the deity and her actual actions—crawling in forests, swinging on vines, fighting monkeys—was striking. Their deity was a psycho. But it didn't matter.
Arthur chuckled, "You're full of surprises. Jasper's reaction will be interesting when he learns his despised younger sister is his idol, Queen Jade."
"Haha! I can't wait to see his face!" Steven laughed.
Evangeline smiled slightly. She hadn't entered the competition solely to get back at Jasper. She had a bigger surprise for him.
Soon, it was Evangeline's turn. A loud cheer arose as her car drove onto the track.
"Queen Jade! Queen Jade! Queen Jade!"
Jasper, having already advanced to the finals, watched intently. He saw her blurred figure through the window. His blood boiled. Jade, Queen Jade… finally so close! She had to win so they could race in the final!
The race began. Thirty cars sped down the track. Jade's unique driving skills were unmistakable. She won first place and advanced.
Halftime began; the final would start at noon. As Evangeline exited her car, contestants rushed backstage to see Jade. Jasper broke through the crowd.
He ran to her, excited, momentarily speechless. "Queen Jade, I'm a huge fan! I've loved you for years. You've always inspired me." He paused. "I went through dark times, and I survived after hearing something you said. You saved me! You said you're a seed. When deep in darkness, absorb nutrients, accumulate strength. When you break through the mud, you should be the tallest tree, overlooking all, becoming others' belief… Because of your words, I survived and became successful."
"Queen Jade, you're my idol! It's always been my greatest wish to meet you! I'd be even happier if we could be friends. Please, give me a chance!" He looked into her eyes expectantly.
Jade wore a helmet, revealing only her eyes. For some reason, he found them familiar.
Evangeline looked at him indifferently, knowing his happiness wouldn't last.
Arthur, Steven, and their bodyguards squeezed through the crowd to reach Evangeline. Arthur kicked Jasper—a kick fueled by personal resentment.
"Queen Jade, let me take you to the lounge to rest," Steven suggested.
Evangeline nodded and moved toward the lounge, surrounded by her group.
Jasper anxiously chased after her, shouting, "Queen Jade, I really like you! Please, look at me! Talk to me! Just one word!"
