Listen to this chapter:

Hannah was still surprised by Jane's death. She knew Jane would endure a difficult period, but hadn't expected Mary's viciousness to culminate in murder. As far as Hannah knew, Jane would never have taken her own life.

Hannah turned to Mary, whose eyes were swollen and red from crying. She appeared near collapse. "I should have come to her room soonerโ€ฆ I should have stopped herโ€ฆ it's all my fault," Mary sobbed, feigning remorse.

The rest of the Coopers arrived at the hospital. Roger had rushed Jane there after her apparent suicide, but she had already passed away. Following a failed emergency intervention, Jane was pronounced dead.

Hannah's parents arrived, finding Jane's body pale and still. Esther wept uncontrollably, holding Jane's hand. Roger's anger had subsided, replaced by guilt and self-recrimination. Lorie, sitting on the couch, seemed less domineering, her sadness palpable. The air was heavy with grief.

None of them anticipated Jane's suicide following the recent scandal. However, Hannah couldn't help but repeatedly glance at Mary, suspecting she had underestimated her.

Two days later, a simple funeral was held, devoid of a family mourning ceremony. Jane's cremated remains were buried in the Cooper family cemetery, making her the youngest among the deceased.

On the drive home, Hannah sat with her parents. Miguel sighed, "I never expected Jane to commit suicide. Though she was difficult, I still feel sorry for her."

Michelle nodded. "Yesโ€ฆ after all, we watched her grow upโ€ฆ I feel sorry for her."

Hannah remained silent, gazing out the window. At Cooper Manor, Michelle departed, and Hannah went to the office with her father.

"Hannah," Miguel said, taking her hand.

"What is it, Dad?" Hannah asked, surprised.

"Stay strong," Miguel said seriously, his concern evident. He worried about her succumbing to grief.

Smiling, she reassured him, "Dad, don't worry. I cherish my life. I would never take my own life."

"I'm glad to hear that," Miguel sighed. "Though I disliked Jane, I feel sorry for her and Roger. I can't imagine the same happening to your mother and me."

Tears welled in Hannah's eyes. She thought of her parents' selflessness in saving her life during a car accident in a previous life. Holding back her emotion, she said, "Dad, don't worry. I'll always be with you."

Miguel nodded, patting her hand, finding solace in her words. They reached the Cooper Group building, composed and resolute. They entered, then returned to their respective offices.

Rose followed Hannah, reporting, "Ms. Hannah, Mr. Richards visited this morning while you were at Jane's funeral. He wants to speak with you about the staff changes; he says something is wrong."

"Something wrong?" Hannah frowned. She had helped arrange the funeral immediately after learning of Jane's death. While surprised by Jane's death, Hannah felt no sympathy for the woman she considered heinous. Still, out of a sense of duty, she had attended the funeral. Percy had handled the staff changes in her absence.

"Everyone involved initiated a protest," Rose said.

"Yesterday morning, we released the staff change paperwork, requiring everyone to relocate and complete the handover process. However, they remain in their positions and refuse to comply. Mr. Richards planned to speak with them individually, but they refused," Rose explained. "Have you identified the ringleader?"

Every protest has a leader. Convincing the leader would resolve the issue.

"Not yet."

"Then we find the leader and fire them!" Hannah declared.

"Yes, Ms. Hannah," Rose replied, impressed by Hannah's decisiveness.

"Tell Percy," Hannah added.

Rose left, and Hannah began work. Her phone rang. Recognizing the number, she hesitated before answering, pretending to be someone else.

"You deleted my number?" Charles asked, jokingly.

"Oscar doesn't like me talking to other men," Hannah replied.

"Oscar, Oscarโ€ฆ you just married him," Charles said, his anger evident.

"He's a significant part of my life," Hannah stated. "Why are you calling?"

"Can't we just chat?"

"I'm busy."

"I heard you're working at Cooper Group," Charles said.

"Business?" Hannah kept her distance.

"Don't be aloof. We were in love for years," Charles pleaded.

"I have to go if this isn't important," Hannah said.

"Hannah," Charles urged. She hesitated.

"Dinner tonight?" Charles asked.

"Sorry."

"Let's talk. I want a chance to redeem myself," he pleaded humbly.
