Chapter 1162: Travel (6) Apology
They chatted while grilling the abundant seafood and other food on the yacht. Theodore enjoyed the meal while Little Bunny expertly barbecued for him.
After a while of fishing on deck, they grew tired and rested in chairs, lulled by the sound of the waves. In that moment, Theodore genuinely wished to spend his life with her.
Evening arrived, and Little Bunny suggested they return. The waves had intensified, rocking even the sturdy yacht. As she prepared to make her suggestion, a sudden power outage plunged the deck into darkness. Theodore was nowhere to be seen. Despite the starry sky, Little Bunny felt a surge of fear. Just as she was about to scream, lights flickered back on.
Theodore stood before her, holding a bouquet of roses adorned with colorful lightsโa surprise orchestrated by him, including the power outage. Though confused by his recent erratic behavior, the gesture eased her fear.
Bathed in the colorful lights, Theodore appeared nervous. He stammered, finally taking a deep breath before speaking. "Little Bunny," he began.
"I know you hate me, think I'm despicable. I've done many things to upset you, the worst being using you to bed other women while you were pregnant. Thinking about it now makes me want toโ" Theodore's voice cracked, his straightforward confession tinged with self-reproach.
Little Bunny didn't interrupt.
"I've slept with countless women; I can't even remember them all. I deeply regret it. Why was I such a fool?"
Little Bunny remained silent.
"I don't know if my change will win you back, but I must try. Even if it's naive, I want you to accept me again. Susan mocked me, telling me to leave you alone, but I can't. The thought of you with another manโmarried, having childrenโit destroys me."
He continued, his voice gaining strength, "So I won't give up on you, ever! And Hannah supports me."
Little Bunny was taken aback. His few sentences had subtly implicated Susan and Hannah in an awkward light. But Hannah? Wasn't she dead?
"You said, Hannah?" Little Bunny finally asked.
Theodore, realizing her unfamiliarity with the situation, explained everything: how Hannah became Besse, and Besse, Hannah. He recounted the entire story.
"Damn! We got sidetracked," he exclaimed, realizing his initial intention. Their conversation had veered into Hannah and Oscar's relationship, a subject on which Theodore surprisingly felt confident commenting.
"Let's get back to what I started," he said.
Little Bunny fell silent again, a contrast to her earlier inquisitiveness regarding Oscar and Hannah.
"When I said I won't give up, I meant it. It took immense effort for me to feel this way about someone. Thinking of you sometimes makes my heart ache. I can't bear the thought of you with other men. Little Bunny, I'll work hard to become the man you want."
Little Bunny remained silent. She didn't truly believe him; in fact, she didn't want to be with him, regardless of any changes he made. She harbored no feelings for him.
"I'm not here to confess my love," Theodore interrupted, noticing her silence. "I'm here to apologize, Little Bunny."
"It's okay, it's in the past. No need to apologize," she replied. She never expected an apology, believing it wouldn't change anything. Forgiveness wasn't even a consideration.
"No, I must. Hannah said I have to apologize sincerely," Theodore insisted. "When I saw you kissing Addison, I slapped you. It must have hurt, right?"
She'd anticipated a different apology. The slap had stung, but she hadn't complained, feeling partially guilty for her intimacy with another man while with Theodore. But his past actions remained unforgivable. She wanted to leave him.
"The past is the past, and you don't need to apologize for the slap. It was my fault. I don't blame you," Little Bunny admitted, acknowledging her guilt over kissing Addison while involved with Theodore.
"No, no. No matter how angry I was, hitting a woman is wrong," Theodore corrected. "I swear I'll never hit you again, no matter what. I'm not saying you can cheat on me, but please don't, and I won't hit you."
"Okay," Little Bunny readily agreed.
"Have you forgiven me then?"
"Um," she replied. There was no lingering resentment about the slap, so forgiveness came easily.
Theodore grinned.
Little Bunny reflected that if not for her past experiences, perhaps she would have been moved by Theodore's words.
