Chapter 1168: Argument

Little Bunny was speechless. Theodore's words left her stunned. Police investigations were thorough, yes, but could everyone involved be in collusion? She suspected bribery, but wisely remained silent, unwilling to contradict Theodore, a member of the system.

Instead, she said, "Knowing Addison, I'm sure he's innocent. I hope you, or your father, will investigate further. His agent says no one will listen to his side of the story. My only hope is you."

Theodore sneered. "I've already investigated; what you see is the result."

"So quick?" Little Bunny challenged. "Or did someone just give you an answer you decided to believe?"

"Little Bunny," Theodore said, "I may be careless with women, but in matters like this, fairness prevails. Do you think my relationship with Oscar got me where I am?"

"Or what?" she blurted, her anxiety over Addison clouding her judgment.

Theodoreโ€™s gaze was cold. He knew his insignificance in her eyes, and he was used to it.

"Theodore," she pleaded, "let's not argue. I went to your father, not you, for help. But I doubt your impartiality in Addison's case."

"Little Bunny, I'm not as bad as you think!" His anger flared, stung by her suspicion. He had investigated thoroughly because he knew her worry. Yet, sheโ€™d sought help elsewhere and doubted his fairness. He treated his work impartially, regardless of personal feelings or Little Bunnyโ€™s concerns.

"Theodore, I don't want to argue. What I've said has angered you, and I can't guarantee future comments won't worsen it. Please stay out of this."

"Little Bunny, I must be crazy to care so much! I'm trying to please you!" Theodore was exasperated. "Fine! It's none of my business. I'll watch you 'save him.'"

"Theodore, I hope you mean that. Stay out of it," she insisted.

He thought: So she thinks I'll interfere anyway? Hannah's advice โ€“ not to anger Little Bunny โ€“ felt extinguished by her cold dismissal.

Theodore turned and stormed out, slamming the door. Little Bunny felt guilty, yet feared his interference might harm Addison's case. This provocation was a calculated move. She'd resolve Addison's situation then apologize to Theodore.

The phone rang.

"Little Bunny, a preliminary understanding of Addison Chasey's situation differs from your account. I've ordered further witness questioning. Suspecting foul play, Iโ€™ve assigned trusted personnel to assist."

"Mr. Wold, thank you."

"No problem. You're Nicholas's mother; we'll remain family."

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Little Bunny could only manage, "I'll call you with updates."

"Okay."

The call ended. Laird confirmed a discrepancy. Theodore's words about the police echoed in her mind. But she refused to believe Addison, a man of integrity, could use drugs. It felt like a setup.

Four hours passed. Night fell. Theodore hadn't returned, but she didn't call. Another argument would be pointless.

The phone rang again. She felt bad for disturbing Laird, but time was critical.

"Little Bunny, our investigation confirms my earlier statement. Evidence shows Addison's drug use..."

"But..." Little Bunny bit her lip, unsure if her faith in Addison was genuine or simply denial.

"I know this is hard, but we're investigating potential foul play. I've arranged a meeting with Addison. After speaking with him, we'll minimize his charges."

Little Bunny agreed immediately. She needed to see Addison, to assess his condition and understand his situation. She couldn't simply stand by. A deep-seated attachment remained.
