Chapter 1167: Another Conflict
"Little Bunny, I'm not trying to put you in a difficult position, but I need your help clearing Addison's name. It could affect your reputation, but I'm asking you to help him through Theodore," pleaded Yuna sincerely. "I know about your relationship with Theodore, and I can't think of anyone else who can help."
"Since you know about my relationship with Theodore, you should also know it's not a good one," Little Bunny replied hesitantly. "There's no guarantee he'll help, and he's very angry about Addison and me."
"I understand it's difficult, but please try," Yuna said helplessly. "I wouldn't ask if there were other options. Even if it fails, at least we tried our best for Addison."
Little Bunny wanted to help Addison but hesitated about involving Theodore.
"Just try, okay? I won't blame you if it doesn't work," Yuna urged.
"Okay, fineโฆ but don't get your hopes up."
"Thank you so much! Let me know if I can help in the future!" Yuna exclaimed gratefully before hanging up.
After the call, Little Bunny felt anxious. She doubted Theodore would help and imagined his anger. She feared making things worse, but she'd promised Yuna. Then, another option occurred to her: Theodore's father, Laird Wold.
During their divorce, Laird had said, "If you ever need anything, feel free to reach out."
Despite the years and her struggles, she'd never considered it. Why should a man like him help her? But now, Laird seemed her only hope. He was a last resort, a backup plan for when Theodore pushed her too far. She hadn't expected to need him for Addison, and knew this was a one-time request.
Little Bunny took a deep breath and called Laird. He answered quickly, his tone gentle: "Hello, Little Bunny."
"Hello, Mr. Wold."
Laird sighed; she wasn't his daughter-in-law anymore. "It's late. Do you need something, or are you calling for Nicholas?" His attitude was a stark contrast to Theodore's.
"I need your help." Little Bunny said hesitantly.
"Tell me."
Little Bunny bravely explained Addison's situation and her strained relationship with Theodore, hiding nothing from Laird.
After listening, Laird sighed, "Theodore not only disrespects you, but prevents your happiness."
Little Bunny was speechless.
"I'll find out more about Addison and get back to you," Laird said decisively.
"Thank you, Mr. Wold." Little Bunny breathed a sigh of relief. Laird had always been easygoing; she just hadn't wanted to burden him.
Back in her room, Little Bunny watched news reports on Addison's escalating scandal. The online criticism angered her.
A knock came at her door. It was Theodore. "Did you ask my father for help investigating Addison?"
Panicked, she'd forgotten to tell Laird not to tell Theodore.
"My father has connections, but I'm in charge now. He didn't tell me; someone reported it to me." Theodore had considered she might ask him for help herself.
"You believe my father over me?" Theodore asked sarcastically.
"I didn't want to trouble you," she lied.
"So you'd rather trouble my father?"
Little Bunny fell silent.
"When will you be honest with me?!" Theodore demanded coldly.
"This is the information you wanted," Theodore said, throwing a file at her before leaving without another word. His anger was simmering beneath the surface.
Little Bunny, more concerned about Addison, opened the file. Multiple witness testimonies stated Addison had been caught using drugs while drunk and was under administrative detention. The testimonies unanimously claimed Addison voluntarily used drugs. If true, he was guilty.
She was devastated. She couldn't believe it.
Grasping the file, she stormed into the living room where Theodore sat smoking. "It can't be true! These witnesses are colluding against him. Addison is being set up!"
"Do you believe him?" Theodore asked, extinguishing his cigarette.
"Absolutely."
Theodore calmly continued, "Do you think the Northfield police are incompetent? They have extensive experience and expertise in anti-investigation techniques. Do you think they wouldn't know if these statements were fabricated?"
