Chapter 192: The Accident (3) โ€“ Oscar Won't Come for You

Janet noted Hannah's silence with a flicker of anger, quickly replaced by a chilling composure. Hannah was helpless, entirely at her mercy. Janet savored the moment, recalling the humiliations and the loss of Oscar; finally, revenge was hers.

A ferocious smile twisted her lips, terrifying Hannah. Hannah knew what was coming and desperately sought a way out.

"Janet, what do you want?" she asked, fighting to control her panic.

"What do I want?" Janet laughed, a cruel, indifferent sound. "I dragged you to this godforsaken place. What do you think? I want to kill you!"

The words "kill you" sent a fresh wave of fear through Hannah. She swallowed, striving for a calm voice. "In Northfield, you'll pay with your life for murder."

"So, I'll kill you secretly."

"For what?" Hannah challenged, incredulous at Janet's ruthlessness. "It was a business competition. I won this time; you might win next. Do you really have to go this far? You'll be caught! Why risk it?"

Janet's laughter grew more sarcastic. "Small things? You humiliated me! You stole Oscar! And you call that small? Hannah, you should have kept a lower profile. Otherwise, you'll get yourself killed!"

"Neither of us will benefit," Hannah pleaded. "I admit I embarrassed you, but I'm injuredโ€”consider that payback. We're even."

Janet remained unmoved.

"Hannah, I'm not a fool. You'll call the police the moment I let you go. Even without enough evidence for murder, you'll tell Oscar, and I'll be ruined. How am I supposed to live?" she said coldly.

"I won't call the police or tell Oscar," Hannah stated firmly.

"The dead don't talk."

Janet's words struck Hannah with chilling finality.

"I could tolerate the other things," Janet continued. "You manipulated me into that contract with Winโ€”I lost a fortune. You sabotaged me at Celina's launch. You exposed Win's scandal on TV. But do you know what I can't bear?"

It was Oscar. Hannah knew it.

Janet, though already certain of Hannah's understanding, spelled it out: "I am the only one worthy of Oscar!"

"Oscar won't be yours, even if you kill me," Hannah declared with unwavering determination.

Janet's face turned frigid.

"You worked for Oscar for years. He would have been with you long ago if he wanted to; I wouldn't have had a chance. Since he's with me, it means he doesn't love you..."

With a sharp snap, Janet slapped Hannah across the face.

Hannah, already weakened, crumpled to the ground, dazed. Janet's smile sharpened, a cruel satisfaction in her eyes. Hannah, once so proud, was now a pathetic mess. Janet reveled in her power.

She squatted, pinching Hannah's chin, forcing her to look into her twisted face.

"Oscar loves your pretty face, right?" she hissed.

Terror filled Hannah's eyes.

"Tell meโ€”will Oscar still love you if I cut your face?"

"Aren't you afraid, Janet?" Hannah's voice, though trembling, held a dangerous edge.

Janet glared, momentarily unnerved, but dismissed it as a bluff.

"Oscar is smart. Do you think he can't find out who killed me?" Hannah pressed, meeting her adversary's aggression with her own. "Do you think he won't avenge me?"

"He'll never find out," Janet asserted. "He's in the capital; he doesn't know about your accident. I'll be back in the capital before he returns and learns what happened. Many people believe I'm already there. I've covered my tracks. Even if he suspects me, he won't find proof. I've worked for Oscar a long time. Don't you think I know a few tricks? Otherwise, I'd be dead a hundred times over."

Hannah saw the chilling truth in Janet's smug expression; this wasn't impulsive; it was meticulously planned.

"Right!" Janet declared, triumphant. "I've wanted to kill you since you married Oscar. But I didn't want to kill you outright; it wouldn't be enough. I wanted to teach you a lesson, then find the perfect opportunity. But you humiliated me, you ruined me. You're good. But so what? You're smart. But so what? Did you ever imagine I'd kill you? All's fair in love and war. You're nothing but a loser!"

"Are you sure you're not considering the consequences?" Hannah asked.

"There will be no consequences!" Janet declared.

"What if I tell you I informed Oscar before the accident?" Hannah said coldly.

Janet recoiled, momentarily shocked, then recovered with a sneer. "You think I'd fall for that!?"

"It's up to you..."

"Even so, it doesn't matter," Janet interrupted.

Hannah felt a tremor of unease.

"Yep. Oscar won't come for you! He has bigger things to deal with in the Capitalโ€”you're nothing to him compared to that." Janet's words were firm, her confidence unshaken.

What was Oscar hiding?
