Chapter 194: The Accident (5) Hannah Saved Herself

Hannah denied Oscar's love, not out of deception, but disbelief. They had no connection; she barely remembered him. How could he love her? Perhaps Thomas fabricated the story to mislead Janet, harboring a known infatuation for her.

"I don't care, and I'm done with you!" Janet spat, her voice dripping with venom. "I didn't kill you in the accident because I wanted you to suffer, to fear death. Now, it's time."

"Janet!" Hannah cried, desperate. "My marriage to Oscar is a sham! You don't need to ruin your life for this. Don't stain your hands with blood! It's not worth it!"

"Worth it or notโ€ฆ" Janet smiled cruelly. "Hannah, I have nothing left!"

Hannah's heart pounded. Janet's ruin at Starlight Mall had left her utterly vulnerable.

"My family is a mess. Thanks to you, I've lost everything, my reputation shattered. Do you think I have a wonderful life? My father will likely kill me or sell me to one of his business partnersโ€”turning me into a high-class prostitute, just like before." Janet laughed bitterly. "I'd rather kill you and myself than face that hell."

"Turn to Thomas for help," Hannah pleaded, attempting to negotiate.

"Do you think he'll help?" Janet questioned.

"He loves you," Hannah stated.

"But he won't betray Oscar," Janet countered.

Hannah frowned, questioning Janet's inflated portrayal of Oscar.

"If Oscar knows what I've done, he'll make me suffer, even if he doesn't kill me."

"No, he won't!" Hannah insisted. "Our marriage is fake. He won't hurt you for me!"

"You don't know him," Janet retorted coldly. "You don't know how terrifying Oscar is!"

To Hannah, Oscar was merely an unreliable playboy. At best, a mature, arrogant manโ€”not terrifying.

"Hannah, don't think I don't see your tricks," Janet sneered. "You're buying time, waiting for Oscar."

Hannah's silence confirmed Janet's assessment.

"Forget it. He won't come," Janet declared. "I've told you the truth."

"I'm not expecting him. I just want to live."

"Then save the trouble," Janet said coldly. "There's no turning back."

Janet gestured to the two men behind her. "Kill her!"

Hannah scrambled backward, fear gripping her. She couldn't die; she'd fought too hard to return to life. Her palms bled as she retreated, one of the men raising a gun. Death loomed again.

Gritting her teeth, she shouted, "Janet, our marriage is fake! I can prove it!"

Janet frowned, unconvinced. The truth of their marriage held little sway, but women are inherently jealous. Hannah's desperation piqued her interest.

Janet signaled the men to stand down. The gun lowered. Hannah remained tense.

"How can you prove it's fake?" Janet demanded.

"A real marriage includes sex, doesn't it?" Hannah asked, buying more time. She had to survive.

"So?" Janet prompted.

"I'm a virgin!" Hannah declared.

Janet's surprise was evident.

"I've never slept with Oscar. Our marriage was a business deal."

Janet eyed her skeptically, doubting Oscar's lack of involvement or Hannah's claim. Either way, he was a skilled actor.

"Prove it," Janet smirked.

Hannah knew her life depended on this. "One of those men can prove it!"

Janet's laughter followed a moment of stunned silence. It was derisive, contemptuous.

"Hannah, you'll do anything to live! You'd rather be violated than die, huh?!"
