Chapter 195: The Accident (6) Ten Minutes
"I've never been as good or arrogant as you think. I'm just an ordinary person. I have emotions and feelings, and I'm terrified of death," Hannah countered Janet's sarcasm. "I'm nothing special. You don't have to ruin yourself for me. It's not worth it."
"It's not your decision. It's my business," Janet said coldly. "Besides, I want to see if you've been lying. Oscar won't come to save you, even if we're here all night."
"Janet, why do you want to kill me?" Hannah asked.
The question hung in the air. Janet herself seemed uncertain. Was it jealousy? Resignation? She gritted her teeth. The truth, she had to admit, was that she wanted to kill Hannah because Hannah was smarter and more capable. She found it hard to accept another woman being superior, especially one married to Oscar.
Hannah, her face etched with complex emotions, stated firmly, "First, Oscar and I are married. You can't accept that he's with someone else. Second, you lost our competition. Third, you believe I'm better than you, and your pride can't handle defeat."
"Now that you know, go to hell!" Janet spat.
"But all those reasons are stupid," Hannah countered. "First, my marriage to Oscar is fake. You'll know I'm telling the truth once you prove it! Second, I admit I beat you in our competition, and you hate me for it. But I'll give up my virginityโsomething I've kept for twenty-two yearsโto compensate. That's a fair deal. Third, you should know what kind of person I am by now. I'll do anything to live! I'm not as perfect as you think, so you don't need to be jealous."
Janet stared at Hannah silently, almost convinced. But she smiled coldly. "Hannah, I'm too smart to fall for that."
Hannah frowned.
"See? I was about to kill you, but I hesitated. That proves you're damn good! You're so smart. If I let you go, I'll be the one doomed."
Hannah gritted her teeth, staring nervously.
"A wise person can be undone by their own cleverness. Only after you mentioned your virginity did I think of another way to torture you. You'll be raped, then killed," Janet said, her furious face contorted.
Hannah fought to remain calm. This was her only chance to buy time. She believed Oscar would save her, just as he had after her car accident. She didn't want him to find her dead.
She was grateful for this second chance at life, a chance to settle old scores and expose the Sawyer family. She had been cautious, but she never imagined dying so soon. She couldn't die before fulfilling her goals. She wouldn't let this crazy woman kill her.
She bit her lip, suppressing her fear. She'd concocted a thousand reasons, but this was the best way to survive. Deep down, she hated the thought of being touched by anyone but Oscar.
She wondered if Oscar would be upset about her losing her virginity. She'd been taught to cherish her virginity above all else. Now, she'd abandoned all her beliefs, willing to do anything to live. In her past life, she would have rather died than lose her virginity.
People change. She barely recognized herself.
"Janet, seriously, I'm not as good as you think. You don't have to kill me. It's not worth it!" Hannah pleaded.
Janet laughed maniacally. "Hannah, stop struggling! I'm not falling for it! I despise you even for trying to survive so cleverly! I thought you'd choose death to preserve your dignity and virginity! Instead, you're begging like a dog! Shame on you! I despise you, and I pity Oscar. He must think highly of you, whether you truly love each other or just married for a deal. But you're so low, so degrading!"
"Like I said, I'm not perfect! I just act that way! You don't have to do this for me! Let me go. I'll do anything."
"You know how happy I am to see you demeaning yourself? I'm wavering again, doubting if it's all pointless as you say. But I'm not a quitter. I worked hard for this chance to kill you! Do you think you can talk me out of it?" Janet said cruelly. "No way!"
"Janet..."
"Ten more minutes," Janet interrupted. "You're smart enough to know what matters to me: proof that Oscar slept with you. That buys you more time."
Hannah swallowed, panic rising.
Janet addressed a large man behind her. "Do her."
The man hesitated.
"Don't you understand?" Janet urged.
The man finally complied, removing his pants.
