Chapter 315: Danger (4) Save Him

Long afterward, Jimmy released Hannah. Stunned, she could only stammer, "He got kidnapped! Who did that? Why?"

Jimmy remained indifferent. "I don't know. My duty is to protect you."

Hannah was about to rush after them when Theodore appeared, seemingly from nowhere. "Come with me," he commanded.

"Theodore, Thoth was kidnapped! We have to help him!" Hannah exclaimed anxiously.

"No, we can't. Oscar is our priority."

"Theodore!" Hannah protested, her voice sharp with frustration.

But Theodore didn't give her a chance to argue. He had Jimmy restrain Hannah and returned to the car, removing his mask.

Staring at him, Hannah struggled to understand his impassivity. "Theodore, don't you think this is weird? They just took him right in front of us!"

"Nothing weird about it," Theodore replied calmly. "He knew too much. He will be killed."

"What?" Hannah was furious. She couldn't believe his cold-bloodedness.

"Jimmy, take us elsewhere. The hospital is under surveillance. We'll deal with this later," Theodore instructed.

Jimmy obeyed.

"Can we at least notify the police?" Hannah pleaded.

Theodore added impatiently, "Hannah, are you that naive? Do you think drug dealers avoid detection simply by being careful? They're likely involved with the local police."

Hannah paused, then realization dawned.

"You finally get it," Theodore confirmed.

Only then did she understand why Theodore had focused solely on Oscar, ignoring the police. She had assumed he feared alerting the drug dealers; instead, the police were complicit.

"Even if you want to leave, you can't. We can't send you home. I need your help, which is why Jimmy must stay. You can't go home alone, so you're staying with us."

"I didn't say I wanted to leave. But you need to save Thoth."

"Saving him will alert them. If we fail to capture Jason tonight and leave immediately, the local police will focus on us. What happened to Thoth will happen to us," Theodore stated, his voice devoid of emotion.

"Theodore, I don't know what you've been through, but I can't stand by while he's in danger. And Thoth is Oscar's assistant; Oscar will be implicated if Thoth dies because of him," Hannah argued.

Theodore responded with a scornful smile. "He's far more ruthless than you imagine."

"I'll call the police if you refuse to save Thoth! I mean it!"

"Hannah! You're jeopardizing us!" Theodore snapped.

"I don't want to get you into trouble, but I can't just watch him die, unless it was Charles," she clarified. She would show no mercy to those who conspired against her, but she couldn't be as heartless as Charles. Her humanity remained intact.

After a tense silence, Theodore saw her resolve. He conceded, "Jimmy, take us to Blue River."

Hannah didn't know the location, but sensed Theodore's familiarity with it. As instructed, Jimmy drove them to a deserted area.

"Stay in the car," Theodore ordered.

"Where are you going?" Hannah asked, fear creeping into her voice.

"As you requested, I'm going to rescue him." Theodore vanished into the darkness.

Hannah watched him disappear, anxiety gnawing at her. She regretted her impulsiveness. While wanting to save Thoth, she hadn't considered risking Theodore's life. She couldn't afford to lose him.

Half an hour felt like an eternity. Then, a figure emerged from the darkness. Hannah held her breath.

It was Theodore, soaked to the bone, carrying Thoth.

After placing Thoth in the back seat, Theodore urged, "Jimmy, drive!"

Jimmy accelerated.

Hannah looked at Thoth, still trembling.

"What happened to him?" she asked.

Drying his hair with a towel, Theodore replied casually, "He was thrown in the river with his feet tied and a stone attached. He's fine, just panicked."

"How do you know?"

"It's a common tactic among those dealers," he answered.

Hannah realized Theodore had anticipated this.

"Ten minutes left; we need to get to the hospital. But I'll leave him here, even if you don't understand why."

"Okay," Hannah agreed, surprising Theodore with her lack of protest.

"He's safe. That's enough. Oscar is still our priority."

Hannah knew her limits, but also when to compromise. She turned to Thoth. "You've been rescued. They'll believe you're dead. You're safe now. Go back to Kensbury. Don't call the police; wait for instructions."

Thoth finally composed himself, looking up at Hannah.

"You're on your own," Hannah stated.

Thoth nodded.

Jimmy stopped halfway. Thoth got out, still shivering, clearly traumatized. Jimmy sped off as soon as he was clear.

They headed to the hospital. Theodore donned his medical attire again.

"Theodore, let me help you," Hannah offered.

Theodore frowned.

"Trust me. Let me help," Hannah insisted.
