Chapter 316: Danger (5) Resourceful Hannah
Theodore finally agreed to let Hannah help; taking down the drug ring's second-in-command wouldn't be easy. Additional help was essential.
He went to the hospital, returning with a nurse's and doctor's uniform. Hannah and Jimmy changed into them. They walked into the hospital confidently, proceeding to the traumatology department.
A nurse at the desk approached the unusual sight. Theodore swiftly incapacitated her with an injection to the neck.
"Half an hour coma," he reminded Hannah, concealing the nurse at the desk. Hannah was to impersonate the nurse; if they didn't return in half an hour, she was to leave.
Theodore and Jimmy headed for the ICU, where two policemen stood guard, likely protecting the patient inside. News reports only mentioned the fireworks factory explosion, omitting any mention of drugs. The only people who knew the truth were Thoth and Oscar; silencing them would resolve the problem.
"What are you doing here?" a policeman asked.
"Routine check," Theodore replied.
"Again?" The policeman was suspicious, noting Theodore's previous visits and the presence of doctors.
"The leader insists on meticulous care, no mistakes allowed," Theodore explained calmly.
The policeman scrutinized him, but Theodore's composure seemed to reassure him. "Fine. Check carefully. If anything happens, we're all to blame!"
"Don't worry," Theodore said.
Just as he was about to take Jimmy inside, the policeman stopped him. Theodore's calm facade faltered momentarily.
"You go in alone," the policeman decided, remaining wary.
"You wait here," Theodore instructed Jimmy, entering the ICU alone, watched by the two officers outside.
He performed a seemingly professional checkup on Jason. He glanced occasionally at the guards; taking Jason away unnoticed was impossible, and any rash move would alert the entire building. He could easily escape alone, but not with Jason.
Just as Theodore felt his patience wearing thin, Hannah, in her nurse's uniform and mask, appeared outside.
"What are you doing? You can't be here without permission," a policeman said.
"I'm here for my boyfriend," Hannah replied innocently.
"Who's your boyfriend?" The policeman's expression hardened.
"Him," Hannah pointed at Jimmy.
Jimmy's face flushed under his mask. Before the policemen could react, Hannah grabbed his hand. "It's dark, and I'm scared. Didn't you promise to be with me?"
Confused and awkward, Jimmy allowed himself to be led away by Hannah to a secluded corner, still within the policemen's view.
Hannah whispered, "Follow my lead."
Jimmy, bewildered, found Hannah on tiptoe, close to his face. Her hands covered their mouths, simulating a kiss.
"Undress me," Hannah instructed.
Jimmy was stunned.
"Hurry," she urged, "and be careful, don't show the bulletproof vest."
Gritting his teeth, Jimmy followed her instructions, removing her uniform, bulletproof vest, and top.
The policemen, nearby, were captivated by the scene, deeming the doctor and nurse's actions inappropriate.
"'Isn't it neglect of duty?'"
"'She is hot...'"
Completely engrossed, they were swiftly incapacitated by Theodore's injections.
Hannah and Jimmy hurried to the ward. Jimmy assisted Theodore in removing Jason, who was also rendered unconscious. The entire operation was swift and efficient.
The drug ring, evidently unprepared for such a daring move, had taken few precautions.
Back in the car, Jimmy sped away. Hannah remained shaken long after they left the hospital. Theodore removed his disguise, exclaiming heartily, "You're far more resourceful than I thought!"
He had nearly resorted to a desperate, direct confrontation. Hannah's resourcefulness had bought him crucial time; he'd needed a chance, but hadn't found the right moment until now.
Hannah took a deep breath, regaining her composure. "Theodore, we can't do this alone."
Theodore frowned.
"Going after Oscar alone won't work. We don't know how many people he's harmed, how dangerous he is. We might be useless, and sacrifice more lives."
"What do you suggest?" Theodore asked, trusting her quick thinking and decisive actions. Oscar's adored woman couldn't be underestimated.
"They're protected by the local government; we can't rely on local police. But we can contact Kensbury City, or even Northfield police. Exposing the Langley Town fireworks factory as a drug ring hideout will bring more resources, preventing us from being alone!"
"Report it to Kensbury City police?"
"First, we need evidence; it's just an allegation now, and could backfire. I'll stay here to find evidence Oscar hasn't secured, while you and Jimmy take Jason to find Oscar."
