Chapter 480: The Game (23) Powerless
It was Martina's first humiliating experience. On the verge of a breakdown, she screamed from the ground, disregarding decorum: "Stop! Why are you standing there? Call the police!"
Her outburst shattered the silence. An employee started to call for help.
"Try it," Hannah said, approaching.
The employee, terrified, dropped her phone, trembling and cowering. "But Iโฆ" she stammered, too frightened to speak.
Hannah turned and left.
Martina shouted after her, "Hannah, I'll press charges for assault! I'll put you in prison!"
Hannah ignored her and joined her companions at the elevator.
"Hannah!" Charles called from behind.
Hannah remained unresponsive.
"Hannah!" Charles approached, but Jimmy stopped him before he could touch her.
Charles addressed Hannah coldly, "Aren't you here for the debt? Why are you leaving?"
With her back to him, she replied, "I offered you a chance, and you squandered it. Therefore, I will proceed with the lawsuit as planned. You'll receive a letter from my lawyer. I will reclaim the Sawyer Group shares through legal channels. Mr. Sawyer, comply with the law."
"Hannah!" Charles looked panicked.
As the elevator doors closed, carrying Hannah, Rose, Tan, and Jimmy, Charles, driven by fury, kicked the doors. The noise startled the staff, who quickly dispersed.
Martina, finally standing, cried to her brother, "Charles, she pinned me down! It hurts! You have to get revenge!"
"Shut up!" Charles roared, his anger blazing.
Martina stared in disbelief. She had always been cherished by her family; she'd never been spoken to like that.
"Why didn't you tell me she'd arrived?" Charles demanded.
Martina bristled. "If she wanted to see you, did I have to bring her? She only wants the project. I was trying to waste her time and embarrass her! Can't you see how aggressive she is? Shouldn't we teach her a lesson?"
"Enough! Our family's decline is because of morons like you!"
"How can you blame me? You've been in charge of everything, family and business! Now you're blaming me when things go wrong? Charles, are you insane?"
"Martina!" Charles trembled with rage. A furious argument erupted under the staff's watchful gaze, shattering his composure as Sawyer Group leader.
"Enough. Behave yourself. Any repetition of this will have serious consequences." Charles refused to waste more time.
"How could youโฆ" Her eyes welled with tears.
Charles left, driving to the Cooper Group. He now implored Hannah to buy the projectโa decision made last night. He concealed his intentions, aware of Hannah's arrival despite Martina's silence. He wanted to appear strong, not inferior. Besides, he doubted Hannah would relinquish the project.
He hated being looked down upon, especially by Hannah. But seeing her determined departure, he knew surrendering the project would severely damage Sawyer Group; she might even keep the project and take the shares. Losing both would be disastrous.
His car accelerated. He burst into the Cooper building.
"Excuse me, sir. Do you have an appointment?" the receptionist stopped him.
"I need to talk to Hannah." He was sullen.
"Sir, you need an appointment to see Ms. Hannah."
"My name is Charles Sawyer, Sawyer Group!"
"Regardless, you need an appointment. Otherwise, please return another day."
Charles glared at her.
"Sir, this way," she indicated the exit.
Charles shoved her aside and strode forward.
"Hey, stop!" she yelled.
Security guards intervened, ejecting him. Injured, he couldn't leave; he couldn't risk Hannah refusing negotiation. He called her.
Hannah, watching him from the window, sneered. He deserved it.
She hung up, blacklisting his number. Enraged, Charles smashed his phone. It was the first time he felt so powerless.
