Chapter 481: Oscar's Return
He stood motionless at the portal, dejected, unwilling to leave. He knew his departure meant the end of Sawyer's future. His fists clenched, his body trembled. He never imagined Hannah would one day dictate his fate. Lost in his turmoil, he heard a husky voice from behind, "Mr. Sawyer, what a coincidence!"
Turning, he saw Oscar, impeccably dressed in a fine suit. The man radiated energy and charisma, a stark contrast to Charles's disheveled appearance after his altercation with the security guards.
Oscar simply stared.
"Mr. Sawyer, what brings you here?"
"I could ask you the same question," Charles replied curtly.
"City Hall reassignment. I have half a month left; they suggested I return early."
Charles felt awkward, realizing nearly six months had passed. He'd had little time to attend to Oscar's affairs amidst the Sawyer Group's troubles. Now, Oscar returned, more experienced and with his past City Hall success, poised to surpass him. Worse, the Collins had abandoned him, leaving his future uncertain.
Oscar seemed to perceive Charles's thoughts, a smug smile playing on his lips. Charles felt a surge of anger, but quickly composed himself.
As Oscar passed, he said, "Mr. Sawyer, if you don't wish to answer, I must go." He strode into the building, the security guards obsequiously clearing a path.
Charles's anger flared at their preferential treatment. "Oscar, would you mind taking me to Hannah?" he finally asked.
Oscar sneered, "She doesn't wish to see you."
"There's a misunderstanding. I want to clarify it."
"She refuses to see you because you offended her. I'm afraid I must decline. I don't wish to bother her," Oscar refused.
Charles's face flushed with rage. The humiliation of his plea stung. He'd known Oscar would refuse, yet he had no other option.
Oscar continued, "She'll see you if she wants to," before disappearing inside. Charles's eyes burned, his face contorted with anger. A security guard sneered, "If you'd married Ms. Hannah, you'd be in a much better position. But well, you deserve it!"
Charles glared, humiliated.
"Thanks to your incompetence, you're to blame," the guard’s voice rose, emboldened by Charles's silence.
Others joined in, "That's right! Can't believe you got caught in that scandal! How dare you approach Ms. Hannah again after that disgusting history! How shameless!"
Enraged, Charles could only endure the relentless humiliation before leaving, consumed by anger. He needed to consider renegotiating the project with Hannah.
Meanwhile, Hannah worked in her office, the thrill of revenge fading into the demands of her workday.
A door opened. Without looking up, she assumed it was Rose and asked, "Did Charles leave?"
Silence.
Hannah frowned, "What's wrong...?"
Raising her head, she saw Oscar, his unexpected arrival always exceeding her expectations. She stared blankly; she never anticipated his return, especially during the day. She suppressed her excitement, questioning if she was dreaming.
"Don't you miss me?" Oscar smiled.
Hannah finally found her voice.
"How did you return so soon?"
"It feels like an eternity since we last parted. 'Soon' seems an understatement."
"Of course I miss you! That's why I'm surprised you're back so soon!"
Oscar seemed pleased. He approached her desk, his long legs casually draped across it. Leaning closer, he invaded her space, her heart pounding. She instinctively leaned back, shy and timid.
"What are you doing? I...I'm working," Hannah stammered.
"I know," he replied, closing the distance.
"Just stay away..."
Before she could finish, he silenced her with a kiss, a kiss born of pure desire. Though resisting, Hannah found it difficult to break free. Desire escalated, and she succumbed. Their bodies intertwined, their love rekindled after their separation. The scent of passion filled the office.
