Chapter 495: The Physical Check-up (2) Teased by Theodore

In the dining room, Hannah and Oscar prepared to leave for the hospital after breakfast. Karen glared at their backs, seething. Hannah effortlessly ignored her, no matter how much Karen tried to provoke her. Sinister plans formed in Karen's mind.

In the car, Oscar appeared nervous. Hannah suppressed a laugh and reached for his hand. Oscar looked at her, surprised by her pretty smile. "What's with that smile? Is it funny that your husband is ill?" he exclaimed.

"So, you admit it?" Hannah replied.

Oscar was speechless.

"Don't worry," Hannah reassured him. "We'll face this together. With modern medicine, any illness is treatable. Worst case, we can always have test-tube babies..."

"Listen, Hannah! I'm perfectly fine! Forget test-tube babies. I'll give you twins later! Or at least one baby a year!" Oscar declared confidently.

Hannah fell silent. Jimmy, usually stoic, erupted in laughter at Oscar's words. Oscar glared at him in the rearview mirror, causing Jimmy to quickly compose himself.

They soon arrived at the hospital, but Oscar refused to exit the car. Hannah waited patiently, then finally pulled him out. "Here we are! You can't back out now!"

Oscar remained reluctant.

"Come on! It's nothing embarrassing. I scheduled a VIP appointment; we won't see anyone we know."

Oscar remained unconvinced. Hannah couldn't understand men's preoccupation with appearances.

"I mean it. Get out!"

Reluctantly, Oscar complied. Hannah guided him to the VIP section, which, as expected, was sparsely populated and offered excellent service.

They entered an elevator. As the doors were closing, they reopened, revealing Theodore.

"What are you guys doing here?" Theodore asked, surprised.

Oscar glared at Hannah, who looked embarrassed. They had unexpectedly encountered Theodore and Little Bunny.

"We're here for antenatal care," Theodore explained matter-of-factly. His father made him accompany Little Bunny to every appointment; his role mostly involved sitting in the restroom and using his phone. The only drawback was his difficulty waking up in the mornings, especially with a hangover.

Theodore, curious, asked, "Are you pregnant too?" He winked at Oscar excitedly, offering congratulations. Oscar remained grim and silent. Theodore couldn't understand Oscar's animosity. Little Bunny subtly tugged on his sleeve. Following her gaze, Theodore noticed the floor indicator.

The sexual health department was on the seventh floor. They were the only passengers besides the medical staff, and were headed to the Obstetrics/Gynaecology department on the thirteenth. The implication was clear.

Theodore erupted in laughter, startling the medical staff.

The elevator arrived. Hannah and Oscar exited, hearing Theodore's shout behind them: "Oscar, you made my day!"

Hannah was annoyed; she felt she was the only one allowed to tease Oscar, though she was more reasonable than Theodore. Taking Oscar's hand, she said, "Don't be mad. He's an idiot."

Oscar wasn't angry; he'd long since learned not to take Theodore seriously. His fear stemmed from being in the hospital itself. Taking a deep breath, he entered the doctor's office with Hannah.

The doctor smiled. "It's normal not to conceive within three or four months. Timing and environment play a significant role. To be sure everything's fine, I suggest Mr. Wells have a general check-up."

"Okay, thank you, doctor."

The doctor provided a long list of tests. Hannah kept Oscar company as they completed them one by one. Oscar hesitated at the sex hormone test. Waiting for the nurse in the VIP room, he trembled visibly.

"Are you scared?" Hannah asked.

"No."

"Then why are you shaking?"

"It's chilly."

"Sir, the temperature is 77ยฐF," the nurse stated.

Oscar was mortified; Hannah laughed. His face paled as the nurse drew blood. Hannah held his hand. "Please be gentle. He doesn't handle pain well."

"Okay," the nurse replied cheerfully, teasing them. "Husbands usually say that to comfort their wives."

Oscar's face flushed. Hannah noticed his pained expression. Once the nurse finished, Hannah applied pressure to the puncture site.

"Does it hurt?" Hannah asked gently, surprised that the seemingly resilient Oscar was afraid of needles.

"Childhood trauma," he explained.

"Oh?" Hannah asked, "Were you unwell as a child?"

Oscar shook his head, and Hannah didn't press further, trusting he would share when ready.

By 11:00 AM, they finished the check-ups. Results would be available at 3:00 PM, delivered with a medical team to their home.

They went to the elevator and found Theodore and Little Bunny waiting. Oscar felt irritated.

"How'd it go?" Theodore asked bluntly, even glancing at Oscar's groin through his pants.

Oscar angrily retorted, "So you think your father gives you too much free time, huh?"

Theodore reacted defensively at the mention of his father.

"Thanks, but no thanks. Just leave me alone!" Oscar snapped.

Theodore laughed, and they rode the elevator together.

"Tell me, why can't you do it?" Theodore persisted.

Oscar was furious.

"Look at me. One shot, and I got her pregnant!" Theodore boasted.

Oscar looked miserable.

"Think about it; Manuel did too!" Theodore exclaimed excitedly.
