Chapter 636: A Call From Susan

Hannah and Oscar sat in the back seat of the car, Oscar holding her hands tightly. The car moved slowly, Oscar repeatedly urging Jimmy to slow down further. Hannah estimated their current speed would delay their return until nightfall.

"I want to go back to work," she said.

"No," Oscar immediately refused.

"Oscar, I'm just pregnant, not illโ€ฆ"

He covered her mouth. Hannah glared at him.

"Don't talk nonsense," he said.

Hannah was furious. Oscar gently removed his hand. "The doctor said you should be careful during the first trimester."

"The doctor also said it won't affect our daily life if we're cautious," Hannah retorted.

"The doctor was wrong," Oscar insisted.

"You are wrong," Hannah countered. "Or why did she tell us not to have sex?"

A silence followed. "It affects our daily life," Oscar finally conceded.

Hannah remained speechless, resigned to missing work. Oscar coaxed her, "Don't be mad. It's bad for the baby. Be a good girl." Jimmy, overhearing, found Oscar's demeanor unsettling.

"I'm going to call Susan," Hannah declared, picking up her phone. Oscar snatched it. Hannah's anger flared.

"Radiation affects the baby's health," she argued.

"Do you live in the Middle Ages? Experts have long debunked that myth," Oscar scoffed.

"When it comes to babies, it's better to be cautious!"

"You're insane!"

"Don't swear; the baby will hear."

Hannah, forcing herself to remain calm, said, "Then call Susan for me." Oscar had to work; he couldn't stay with her constantly.

"What do you want to call her for? She's careless. What if she upsets you?"

Hannah felt a sting. Did he want her to end her friendship with Susan just because she was pregnant? Seeing Hannah's glare, Oscar relented, "Fine, I'll call her."

Hannah calmed slightly. Susan answered, sounding weak. Oscar put the call on speakerphone.

Hannah glanced at Oscar and asked Susan, "What's wrong? You sound weak. Shouldn't you be with Manuel?"

Susan laughed, "When did I reconcile with Manuel?"

Hannah frowned. Manuel's words last night strongly suggested they were getting back together. Why did Susan deny it? "What did you do to Manuel?" Hannah asked seriously.

"Did Manuel tell you anything?" Susan asked.

"He said you'll be together," Hannah replied.

Susan was clearly upset, not expecting Manuel to reveal their reconciliation so soon. "It was a misunderstanding. I still love Henry."

"Susan, is love a game to you?" Hannah's anger prompted Oscar to subtly gesture for her to calm down. She took a deep breath.

Susan, seemingly overwhelmed, confessed, "Yes, I'm unforgivable, a bad woman, disloyalโ€ฆ I should jump off a building!"

Hannah was shocked, "Don't talk like that!"

Susan, having endured her turmoil for too long, wanted to release her frustration. She bit her lip, restraining herself, aware that her choice was irrevocable.

"Who do you want to be with?" Hannah asked gently.

"Henry," Susan answered without hesitation.

Hannah knew something significant had happened. "Susan, are you hiding something from me?"

"Could you not tell Manuel about this?" Susan choked out.

"Okay," Hannah promised.

Susan sniffed, then recounted yesterday's events. Before Hannah could respond, Oscar blurted, "Idiot."

"Hannah!" Susan cried, her composure shattered.

Oscar rubbed his ears. "You sound great! I can't see you're in pain!"

Susan was furious.

"Oscar, shut up!" Hannah yelled, then said to Susan, "Come to my place; I want to talk."

"Okay. But I don't want to see Oscar!"

"Alright."

Oscar was speechless.
