Chapter 773: Conspiracy of the Collins Family
Oscar gripped his phone tightly. He hadn't seen Hannah in nearly a month. He stared out the office window; the low floor offered an unobstructed view. He lit a cigarette and inhaled deeply.
Theodore, playing a mobile game beside him, asked, "Was that Manuel?"
"Yeah," Oscar replied.
"And he mentioned Hannah?"
Oscar took another long drag, remaining silent.
"Why don't you go back tomorrow?" Theodore suggested. "I think everything's finished here. I can arrange your schedule for a return flight tomorrow night." He set down his phone, ready to make the arrangements.
"No," Oscar said, smoke curling from his lips. "She doesn't want to see me."
"She doesn't want to see you, so you'll avoid her for the rest of your life? Why keep her then? Might as well say goodbye happilyโฆ" Theodore trailed off, startled by Oscar's expression. He thought, Fuck. You only dare to get mad at me? Why don't you get mad at Hannah and force her to do your bidding?
"Anyway, this isn't the right approach," Theodore murmured. "Hannah's definitely not as docile as you think."
Oscar knew this, but couldn't devise another strategy to keep her. Before Oscar could respond, Theodore silently made the arrangements, messaging someone to book Oscar's flight. He sensed Oscar's deep longing for Hannah and hoped he could see her, even briefly; he also wished Oscar had someone to celebrate life with.
Finishing the arrangements, Theodore said, "You'll fly to Kensbury City at 8 PM tonight and return at 8 PM tomorrow. Need help packing?"
Oscar extinguished his cigarette, a pile of butts before him. He looked at Theodore.
"It's all up to you; I just arranged what I wanted," Theodore said, stretching and rising from the sofa. "I also want to see my son. It's been two weeks, and I wonder if he even recognizes me."
Oscar didn't reply.
"I stayed up with you again last night. I'm going home to rest, and I'll pick you up later."
Oscar's silence implied consent. Theodore smiled faintly, thinking Oscar was a master of deception.
At the Collins family residence, the family members were gathered.
Rowan stated coldly, "I just received confirmation that Theodore booked Oscar a flight back to Kensbury City tonight." He glanced at Lillian.
Lillian shrugged indifferently. "He can go if he wants. I don't care."
"Don't say that, Lillian. Do you realize how crucial you are to our family now? Our survival hinges on your relationship with him," Rowan said gravely.
Lillian pursed her lips.
Sarah felt a pang of resentment. Her father once valued her counsel, but Lillian had inexplicably become paramount, and she sensed a desperation beneath his affection for Lillian.
"Even if I cared, what am I supposed to do? Am I supposed to go to Kensbury City with him?" Lillian asked dismissively. "He can return if he wants, but not if he doesn't."
Rowan was exasperated by Lillian's lack of initiative. Without Lillian, the Collins family would have been ruined by Oscar, ending up like the Balderstons. Now, through Lillian's connection to Oscar, Rowan couldn't afford a misstep.
"Dad, I can go with him," Sarah volunteered.
Lillian, and the others, turned to her.
"I know Kensbury City, and it's not ideal for Lillian to constantly follow Oscar," Sarah explained.
"You think so?" Rowan asked. He knew his daughters well; Sarah had always been competitive and was undoubtedly jealous of her sister's success. He feared she'd make a fool of herself.
"I admit I have ulterior motives," Sarah admitted frankly.
Darkness flickered in Rowan's eyes; Lillian's expression shifted slightly.
"I'm going after that bitch, Hannah," Sarah declared.
Rowan paused; Lillian's face softened slightly.
"She's responsible for my miscarriage. I've endured it for the family's sake, but she's become an enemy. I'm going to Kensbury City to teach her a lesson," Sarah said fiercely. "I'll make her pay!"
"Are you courting death?" Rowan asked icily. "Do you think Oscar will spare you if you harm Hannah? I would have killed her already if I could."
"Even if I can't kill her, I can make her miserable. I can sabotage her relationship with Oscar. Even though they're divorced, you promised him they could remain together privately. If they reunite, do you think his relationship with Lillian will improve?" Sarah seethed. "I won't let her be happy!"
Before Rowan could reply, Lillian interjected, "If Sarah wants revenge on Hannah, I don't think you should stop her."
Rowan frowned.
"Sarah's right. We shouldn't let her walk all over us. Sarah, I'll leave it to you."
"Okay," Sarah agreed, secretly planning to use this as an excuse to approach Oscar. If only I had been the one married to the Commander; I'm better than Lillian in every way, since we were in nursery, she reflected, shocked that Lillian had surpassed her.
"I'll go to Kensbury City with Oscar tonight," Sarah announced excitedly.
Lillian nodded. Rowan hesitated, but finally acquiesced, recognizing that he couldn't allow Hannah and Oscar to remain together indefinitely.
