Chapter 855: Leaving (3) Impending Danger

After a brief moment, the doctor emerged from the emergency room, followed by Hannah. Other medical personnel were wheeling a patient away, providing cover as the doctor and Hannah blended into the crowd. Outside, the patient's family rushed toward them, distracting Max and his bodyguards. Hannah escaped unnoticed.

She wondered if Max would resent her for using him in her escape. Everything had been easier than anticipated. The doctor drove Hannah to the underground garage and they left in a car.

"Are we going to the airport?" Hannah asked.

The doctor nodded.

"Have my parents arrived?"

"My job is to get you there," the doctor replied curtly.

Hannah didn't pursue it; escape was her priority.

The car entered Kensbury City's busiest district, skyscrapers ablaze with LED screens showcasing a live wedding ceremony. Hannah gazed at them, a wistful expression on her face; she was leaving her childhood home.

The car stopped at an intersection, and the doctor exited. Hannah composed herself. Another car arrived; her parents and grandmother emerged and quickly joined her. Hannah was surprised; she'd expected to meet them at the airport.

Miguel drove, Michelle sat beside him, and Lorie sat next to Hannah. A disquieting feeling washed over Hannahโ€”a sense of a deadly plot.

The doctor approached. "Ms. Cooper, I can only take you this far. Please proceed to the airport yourselves. Someone will be waiting with further instructions. Safe travels!"

"Thank you," Hannah replied, her smile concealing her apprehension.

The doctor retreated. Miguel drove off. He sent a message: "Finished. Over."

Driving toward the airport, Miguel sighed. "I've been uneasy these past few days, afraid we'd run into trouble. Perhaps I'm overreacting."

Hannah, however, sensed a trap. Flashbacks of her past life intensified her anxiety. She felt a tightness in her chest and scanned the surroundings for anything suspicious.

"Dad, take a different route," Hannah instructed suddenly.

Miguel was surprised. "This is the fastest route."

"Did they tell you the flight details?" Hannah pressed.

Miguel paused. "No, I don't think so."

"Did they give you the passports?"

"No, I assume we'll get them at the airport," Miguel replied.

Hannah's suspicion grew. "In that case, let's take a roundabout way."

"What's wrong?" Miguel asked, concerned.

"Just trust me, Dad."

Miguel nodded.

Hannah noted surrounding license plates. Miguel changed routes, and Hannah continued to observe the vehicles. She directed further route changes, even veering away from the airport.

Miguel was puzzled by Hannah's behavior, but her expression conveyed a serious concern.

Finally, Hannah confirmed her suspicions: a black SUV had been tailing them. Their departure was clearly compromised. If Lillian hadn't wanted them to leave, she would have simply ensured their safe arrival at the airport. Hannah suspected Lillian planned a staged accident to kill them. Terror gripped her.

"Dad, let's go back!"

Miguel, Michelle, and Lorie were shocked. They understood Hannah's past trauma; their only desire was to remove her from Oscar.

"I don't want to leave," Hannah said, suppressing her fear of alarming them with the danger.

"Hannahโ€ฆ"

"Dad, trust me," Hannah insisted firmly.

Miguel turned the car around at a traffic light. The black SUV immediately followed suit.

Hannah realized Lillian, distrustful of Hannah leaving Oscar, had decided to eliminate her and her family. Hannah was determined to protect them.

Gritting her teeth, she called Susan, her most trusted confidante. "Tell Manuel to help me!"

She didn't question Susan's ability to reach Manuel; she had complete faith in her.

Susan answered, "Where are you?"

"I'll send you the location. Get Manuel here, immediately!"

Then, a loud crash echoed through the phone.
